Keller Group (LON:KLR) Has Announced That It Will Be Increasing Its Dividend To £0.139
Keller Group plc's (LON:KLR) periodic dividend will be increasing on the 8th of September to £0.139, with investors receiving 5.3% more than last year's £0.132. This takes the dividend yield to 4.7%, which shareholders will be pleased with.

Keller Group's Earnings Easily Cover The Distributions
A big dividend yield for a few years doesn't mean much if it can't be sustained. The last payment was quite easily covered by earnings, but it made up 522% of cash flows. The company might be more focused on returning cash to shareholders, but paying out this much of its cash flow could expose the dividend to being cut in the future.
The next year is set to see EPS grow by 44.7%. If the dividend continues along recent trends, we estimate the payout ratio will be 33%, which is in the range that makes us comfortable with the sustainability of the dividend.
Keller Group Has A Solid Track Record
The company has an extended history of paying stable dividends. The dividend has gone from an annual total of £0.228 in 2013 to the most recent total annual payment of £0.377. This implies that the company grew its distributions at a yearly rate of about 5.2% over that duration. The growth of the dividend has been pretty reliable, so we think this can offer investors some nice additional income in their portfolio.
The Dividend's Growth Prospects Are Limited
The company's investors will be pleased to have been receiving dividend income for some time. However, initial appearances might be deceiving. In the last five years, Keller Group's earnings per share has shrunk at approximately 3.1% per annum. If earnings continue declining, the company may have to make the difficult choice of reducing the dividend or even stopping it completely - the opposite of dividend growth. It's not all bad news though, as the earnings are predicted to rise over the next 12 months - we would just be a bit cautious until this can turn into a longer term trend.
In Summary
Overall, we always like to see the dividend being raised, but we don't think Keller Group will make a great income stock. With cash flows lacking, it is difficult to see how the company can sustain a dividend payment. Overall, we don't think this company has the makings of a good income stock.
It's important to note that companies having a consistent dividend policy will generate greater investor confidence than those having an erratic one. Still, investors need to consider a host of other factors, apart from dividend payments, when analysing a company.
