The most you can lose on any stock (assuming you don't use leverage) is 100% of your money. But when you pick a company that is really flourishing, you can make more than 100%. For example, the Groupe Capelli (EPA:CAPLI) share price has soared 104% in the last half decade. Most would be very happy with that. On top of that, the share price is up 38% in about a quarter.

Given that Groupe Capelli only made minimal earnings in the last twelve months, we'll focus on revenue to gauge its business development. As a general rule, we think this kind of company is more comparable to loss-making stocks, since the actual profit is so low. It would be hard to believe in a more profitable future without growing revenues.

For the last half decade, Groupe Capelli can boast revenue growth at a rate of 21% per year. Even measured against other revenue-focussed companies, that's a good result. Meanwhile, its share price performance certainly reflects the strong growth, given the share price grew at 15% per year, compound, during the period. So it seems likely that buyers have paid attention to the strong revenue growth. Groupe Capelli seems like a high growth stock - so growth investors might want to add it to their watchlist.

What about the Total Shareholder Return (TSR)?

Investors should note that there's a difference between Groupe Capelli's total shareholder return (TSR) and its share price change, which we've covered above. Arguably the TSR is a more complete return calculation because it accounts for the value of dividends (as if they were reinvested), along with the hypothetical value of any discounted capital that have been offered to shareholders. Its history of dividend payouts mean that Groupe Capelli's TSR of 125% over the last 5 years is better than the share price return.

A Different Perspective

We're pleased to report that Groupe Capelli shareholders have received a total shareholder return of 3.8% over one year. Having said that, the five-year TSR of 18% a year, is even better. Potential buyers might understandably feel they've missed the opportunity, but it's always possible business is still firing on all cylinders. I find it very interesting to look at share price over the long term as a proxy for business performance. But to truly gain insight, we need to consider other information, too. Case in point: We've spotted 5 warning signs for Groupe Capelli you should be aware of, and 2 of them don't sit too well with us.
