The board of Lemonsoft Oyj (HEL:LEMON) has announced that it will pay a dividend of €0.14 per share on the 22nd of April. The dividend yield is 2.5% based on this payment, which is a little bit low compared to the other companies in the industry.

Lemonsoft Oyj's Projected Earnings Seem Likely To Cover Future Distributions

While yield is important, another factor to consider about a company's dividend is whether the current payout levels are feasible. Prior to this announcement, Lemonsoft Oyj's dividend was comfortably covered by both cash flow and earnings. This indicates that a lot of the earnings are being reinvested into the business, with the aim of fueling growth.

Over the next year, EPS is forecast to expand by 39.2%. If the dividend continues on this path, the payout ratio could be 50% by next year, which we think can be pretty sustainable going forward.

Lemonsoft Oyj Doesn't Have A Long Payment History

The dividend has been pretty stable looking back, but the company hasn't been paying one for very long. This makes it tough to judge how it would fare through a full economic cycle. Since 2022, the annual payment back then was €0.13, compared to the most recent full-year payment of €0.14. This works out to be a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of approximately 2.5% a year over that time. Modest dividend growth is good to see, especially with the payments being relatively stable. However, the payment history is relatively short and we wouldn't want to rely on this dividend too much.

The Dividend Has Growth Potential

Some investors will be chomping at the bit to buy some of the company's stock based on its dividend history. Lemonsoft Oyj has seen EPS rising for the last five years, at 8.9% per annum. Since earnings per share is growing at an acceptable rate, and the payout policy is balanced, we think the company is positioning itself well to grow earnings and dividends in the future.

Lemonsoft Oyj Looks Like A Great Dividend Stock

Overall, we like to see the dividend staying consistent, and we think Lemonsoft Oyj might even raise payments in the future. Distributions are quite easily covered by earnings, which are also being converted to cash flows. All of these factors considered, we think this has solid potential as a dividend stock.

It's important to note that companies having a consistent dividend policy will generate greater investor confidence than those having an erratic one. Meanwhile, despite the importance of dividend payments, they are not the only factors our readers should know when assessing a company. Are management backing themselves to deliver performance?
