Cliq Digital's (ETR:CLIQ) Shareholders Will Receive A Bigger Dividend Than Last Year
Cliq Digital AG's (ETR:CLIQ) dividend will be increasing from last year's payment of the same period to €1.79 on 13th of April. This will take the annual payment to 6.0% of the stock price, which is above what most companies in the industry pay.

Cliq Digital's Earnings Easily Cover The Distributions
We like to see robust dividend yields, but that doesn't matter if the payment isn't sustainable. Prior to this announcement, Cliq Digital was quite comfortably covering its dividend with earnings and it was paying more than 75% of its free cash flow to shareholders. The business is earning enough to make the dividend feasible, but the cash payout ratio of 82% indicates it is more focused on returning cash to shareholders than growing the business.
The next year is set to see EPS grow by 73.7%. If the dividend continues on this path, the payout ratio could be 23% by next year, which we think can be pretty sustainable going forward.
Cliq Digital Doesn't Have A Long Payment History
The dividend has been pretty stable looking back, but the company hasn't been paying one for very long. This makes it tough to judge how it would fare through a full economic cycle. Since 2020, the annual payment back then was €0.14, compared to the most recent full-year payment of €1.79. This implies that the company grew its distributions at a yearly rate of about 134% over that duration. We're not overly excited about the relatively short history of dividend payments, however the dividend is growing at a nice rate and we might take a closer look.
The Dividend Looks Likely To Grow
Investors who have held shares in the company for the past few years will be happy with the dividend income they have received. Cliq Digital has impressed us by growing EPS at 53% per year over the past five years. Cliq Digital is clearly able to grow rapidly while still returning cash to shareholders, positioning it to become a strong dividend payer in the future.
Our Thoughts On Cliq Digital's Dividend
Overall, this is probably not a great income stock, even though the dividend is being raised at the moment. The company hasn't been paying a very consistent dividend over time, despite only paying out a small portion of earnings. Overall, we don't think this company has the makings of a good income stock.
Investors generally tend to favour companies with a consistent, stable dividend policy as opposed to those operating an irregular one. Still, investors need to consider a host of other factors, apart from dividend payments, when analysing a company.
