Can Mixed Financials Have A Negative Impact on VITA 34 AG's 's (ETR:V3V) Current Price Momentum?
Most readers would already know that VITA 34's (ETR:V3V) stock increased by 4.5% over the past month. However, we decided to study the company's mixed-bag of fundamentals to assess what this could mean for future share prices, as stock prices tend to be aligned with a company's long-term financial performance. Particularly, we will be paying attention to VITA 34's ROE today.
Return on equity or ROE is a key measure used to assess how efficiently a company's management is utilizing the company's capital. In other words, it is a profitability ratio which measures the rate of return on the capital provided by the company's shareholders.

How Is ROE Calculated?
ROE can be calculated by using the formula:
Return on Equity = Net Profit (from continuing operations) ÷ Shareholders' Equity
So, based on the above formula, the ROE for VITA 34 is:
6.2% = €2.0m ÷ €32m (Based on the trailing twelve months to September 2020).
The 'return' is the income the business earned over the last year. Another way to think of that is that for every €1 worth of equity, the company was able to earn €0.06 in profit.
What Is The Relationship Between ROE And Earnings Growth?
Thus far, we have learned that ROE measures how efficiently a company is generating its profits. We now need to evaluate how much profit the company reinvests or "retains" for future growth which then gives us an idea about the growth potential of the company. Assuming everything else remains unchanged, the higher the ROE and profit retention, the higher the growth rate of a company compared to companies that don't necessarily bear these characteristics.
VITA 34's Earnings Growth And 6.2% ROE
When you first look at it, VITA 34's ROE doesn't look that attractive. We then compared the company's ROE to the broader industry and were disappointed to see that the ROE is lower than the industry average of 9.4%. Thus, the low net income growth of 4.4% seen by VITA 34 over the past five years could probably be the result of the low ROE.
Next, on comparing with the industry net income growth, we found that VITA 34's reported growth was lower than the industry growth of 7.1% in the same period, which is not something we like to see.
Earnings growth is an important metric to consider when valuing a stock. The investor should try to establish if the expected growth or decline in earnings, whichever the case may be, is priced in. This then helps them determine if the stock is placed for a bright or bleak future. Has the market priced in the future outlook for V3V? Is VITA 34 Using Its Retained Earnings Effectively?
While the company did pay out a portion of its dividend in the past, it currently doesn't pay a dividend. We infer that the company has been reinvesting all of its profits to grow its business.
Our latest analyst data shows that the future payout ratio of the company is expected to drop to 23% over the next three years. As a result, the expected drop in VITA 34's payout ratio explains the anticipated rise in the company's future ROE to 9.2%, over the same period.
Summary
On the whole, we feel that the performance shown by VITA 34 can be open to many interpretations. While the company does have a high rate of reinvestment, the low ROE means that all that reinvestment is not reaping any benefit to its investors, and moreover, its having a negative impact on the earnings growth. Having said that, looking at the current analyst estimates, we found that the company's earnings are expected to gain momentum.
