hGears AG (ETR:HGEA) Analysts Are Reducing Their Forecasts For This Year
Today is shaping up negative for hGears AG (ETR:HGEA) shareholders, with the analysts delivering a substantial negative revision to this year's forecasts. Both revenue and earnings per share (EPS) estimates were cut sharply as the analysts factored in the latest outlook for the business, concluding that they were too optimistic previously.
Following the latest downgrade, the three analysts covering hGears provided consensus estimates of €118m revenue in 2023, which would reflect a chunky 13% decline on its sales over the past 12 months. Losses are supposed to balloon 645% to €0.60 per share. However, before this estimates update, the consensus had been expecting revenues of €133m and €0.17 per share in losses. So there's been quite a change-up of views after the recent consensus updates, with the analysts making a serious cut to their revenue forecasts while also expecting losses per share to increase.

The consensus price target fell 9.2% to €7.27, with the analysts clearly concerned about the company following the weaker revenue and earnings outlook. It could also be instructive to look at the range of analyst estimates, to evaluate how different the outlier opinions are from the mean. There are some variant perceptions on hGears, with the most bullish analyst valuing it at €10.00 and the most bearish at €5.80 per share. This shows there is still some diversity in estimates, but analysts don't appear to be totally split on the stock as though it might be a success or failure situation.
Taking a look at the bigger picture now, one of the ways we can understand these forecasts is to see how they compare to both past performance and industry growth estimates. We would highlight that sales are expected to reverse, with a forecast 17% annualised revenue decline to the end of 2023. That is a notable change from historical growth of 0.7% over the last five years. Compare this with our data, which suggests that other companies in the same industry are, in aggregate, expected to see their revenue grow 5.4% per year. It's pretty clear that hGears' revenues are expected to perform substantially worse than the wider industry.
The Bottom Line
The most important thing to take away is that analysts increased their loss per share estimates for this year. Unfortunately analysts also downgraded their revenue estimates, and industry data suggests that hGears' revenues are expected to grow slower than the wider market. With a serious cut to this year's expectations and a falling price target, we wouldn't be surprised if investors were becoming wary of hGears.
Even so, the longer term trajectory of the business is much more important for the value creation of shareholders. We have estimates - from multiple hGears analysts - going out to 2025, and you can see them free on our platform here.
