Dosilicon Co., Ltd.'s (SHSE:688110) 27% Cheaper Price Remains In Tune With Revenues
The Dosilicon Co., Ltd. (SHSE:688110) share price has fared very poorly over the last month, falling by a substantial 27%. Instead of being rewarded, shareholders who have already held through the last twelve months are now sitting on a 45% share price drop.
Although its price has dipped substantially, Dosilicon's price-to-sales (or "P/S") ratio of 16.4x might still make it look like a strong sell right now compared to other companies in the Semiconductor industry in China, where around half of the companies have P/S ratios below 5.7x and even P/S below 2x are quite common. Although, it's not wise to just take the P/S at face value as there may be an explanation why it's so lofty.

What Does Dosilicon's P/S Mean For Shareholders?
Dosilicon hasn't been tracking well recently as its declining revenue compares poorly to other companies, which have seen some growth in their revenues on average. Perhaps the market is expecting the poor revenue to reverse, justifying it's current high P/S.. However, if this isn't the case, investors might get caught out paying too much for the stock.

The only time you'd be truly comfortable seeing a P/S as steep as Dosilicon's is when the company's growth is on track to outshine the industry decidedly.
Taking a look back first, the company's revenue growth last year wasn't something to get excited about as it posted a disappointing decline of 54%. The last three years don't look nice either as the company has shrunk revenue by 32% in aggregate. Therefore, it's fair to say the revenue growth recently has been undesirable for the company.
Turning to the outlook, the next year should generate growth of 78% as estimated by the one analyst watching the company. That's shaping up to be materially higher than the 34% growth forecast for the broader industry.
In light of this, it's understandable that Dosilicon's P/S sits above the majority of other companies. Apparently shareholders aren't keen to offload something that is potentially eyeing a more prosperous future.
The Key Takeaway
Even after such a strong price drop, Dosilicon's P/S still exceeds the industry median significantly. Using the price-to-sales ratio alone to determine if you should sell your stock isn't sensible, however it can be a practical guide to the company's future prospects.
We've established that Dosilicon maintains its high P/S on the strength of its forecasted revenue growth being higher than the the rest of the Semiconductor industry, as expected. It appears that shareholders are confident in the company's future revenues, which is propping up the P/S. It's hard to see the share price falling strongly in the near future under these circumstances.
