If You Like EPS Growth Then Check Out Sensirion Holding (VTX:SENS) Before It's Too Late

For beginners, it can seem like a good idea (and an exciting prospect) to buy a company that tells a good story to investors, even if it completely lacks a track record of revenue and profit. But the reality is that when a company loses money each year, for long enough, its investors will usually take their share of those losses.

So if you're like me, you might be more interested in profitable, growing companies, like Sensirion Holding (VTX:SENS). While that doesn't make the shares worth buying at any price, you can't deny that successful capitalism requires profit, eventually. Loss-making companies are always racing against time to reach financial sustainability, but time is often a friend of the profitable company, especially if it is growing.

How Fast Is Sensirion Holding Growing Its Earnings Per Share?

In the last three years Sensirion Holding's earnings per share took off like a rocket; fast, and from a low base. So the actual rate of growth doesn't tell us much. Thus, it makes sense to focus on more recent growth rates, instead. Like a falcon taking flight, Sensirion Holding's EPS soared from CHF2.84 to CHF4.23, over the last year. That's a commendable gain of 49%.

I like to take a look at earnings before interest and (EBIT) tax margins, as well as revenue growth, to get another take on the quality of the company's growth. Sensirion Holding shareholders can take confidence from the fact that EBIT margins are up from 21% to 27%, and revenue is growing. Ticking those two boxes is a good sign of growth, in my book.

Are Sensirion Holding Insiders Aligned With All Shareholders?

It makes me feel more secure owning shares in a company if insiders also own shares, thusly more closely aligning our interests. So it is good to see that Sensirion Holding insiders have a significant amount of capital invested in the stock. Notably, they have an enormous stake in the company, worth CHF310m. Coming in at 21% of the business, that holding gives insiders a lot of influence, and plenty of reason to generate value for shareholders. So it might be my imagination, but I do sense the glimmer of an opportunity.

It's good to see that insiders are invested in the company, but are remuneration levels reasonable? A brief analysis of the CEO compensation suggests they are. For companies with market capitalizations between CHF989m and CHF3.2b, like Sensirion Holding, the median CEO pay is around CHF1.3m.

The Sensirion Holding CEO received total compensation of just CHF634k in the year to . That's clearly well below average, so at a glance, that arrangement seems generous to shareholders, and points to a modest remuneration culture. While the level of CEO compensation isn't a huge factor in my view of the company, modest remuneration is a positive, because it suggests that the board keeps shareholder interests in mind. I'd also argue reasonable pay levels attest to good decision making more generally.

Does Sensirion Holding Deserve A Spot On Your Watchlist?

You can't deny that Sensirion Holding has grown its earnings per share at a very impressive rate. That's attractive. If you need more convincing beyond that EPS growth rate, don't forget about the reasonable remuneration and the high insider ownership. Each to their own, but I think all this makes Sensirion Holding look rather interesting indeed. However, before you get too excited we've discovered 2 warning signs for Sensirion Holding (1 makes us a bit uncomfortable!) that you should be aware of.
