Here's Why We're Not Too Worried About Ynvisible Interactive's (CVE:YNV) Cash Burn Situation
Just because a business does not make any money, does not mean that the stock will go down. Indeed, Ynvisible Interactive (CVE:YNV) stock is up 151% in the last year, providing strong gains for shareholders. But the harsh reality is that very many loss making companies burn through all their cash and go bankrupt.
Given its strong share price performance, we think it's worthwhile for Ynvisible Interactive shareholders to consider whether its cash burn is concerning. For the purpose of this article, we'll define cash burn as the amount of cash the company is spending each year to fund its growth (also called its negative free cash flow). First, we'll determine its cash runway by comparing its cash burn with its cash reserves.

Does Ynvisible Interactive Have A Long Cash Runway?
A cash runway is defined as the length of time it would take a company to run out of money if it kept spending at its current rate of cash burn. When Ynvisible Interactive last reported its balance sheet in March 2021, it had zero debt and cash worth CA$8.6m. In the last year, its cash burn was CA$3.9m. Therefore, from March 2021 it had 2.2 years of cash runway. Arguably, that's a prudent and sensible length of runway to have. Depicted below, you can see how its cash holdings have changed over time.
How Is Ynvisible Interactive's Cash Burn Changing Over Time?
In our view, Ynvisible Interactive doesn't yet produce significant amounts of operating revenue, since it reported just CA$642k in the last twelve months. As a result, we think it's a bit early to focus on the revenue growth, so we'll limit ourselves to looking at how the cash burn is changing over time. With the cash burn rate up 22% in the last year, it seems that the company is ratcheting up investment in the business over time. That's not necessarily a bad thing, but investors should be mindful of the fact that will shorten the cash runway. Ynvisible Interactive makes us a little nervous due to its lack of substantial operating revenue. We prefer most of the stocks on this list of stocks that analysts expect to grow.
How Easily Can Ynvisible Interactive Raise Cash?
Given its cash burn trajectory, Ynvisible Interactive shareholders may wish to consider how easily it could raise more cash, despite its solid cash runway. Generally speaking, a listed business can raise new cash through issuing shares or taking on debt. One of the main advantages held by publicly listed companies is that they can sell shares to investors to raise cash and fund growth. By looking at a company's cash burn relative to its market capitalisation, we gain insight on how much shareholders would be diluted if the company needed to raise enough cash to cover another year's cash burn.
Ynvisible Interactive has a market capitalisation of CA$86m and burnt through CA$3.9m last year, which is 4.5% of the company's market value. Given that is a rather small percentage, it would probably be really easy for the company to fund another year's growth by issuing some new shares to investors, or even by taking out a loan.
How Risky Is Ynvisible Interactive's Cash Burn Situation?
As you can probably tell by now, we're not too worried about Ynvisible Interactive's cash burn. For example, we think its cash burn relative to its market cap suggests that the company is on a good path. Although its increasing cash burn does give us reason for pause, the other metrics we discussed in this article form a positive picture overall. Considering all the factors discussed in this article, we're not overly concerned about the company's cash burn, although we do think shareholders should keep an eye on how it develops.
