Have Colliers International Group Insiders Been Selling Stock?

Published
TSX:CIGI

We wouldn't blame Colliers International Group Inc. (TSE:CIGI) shareholders if they were a little worried about the fact that Lewis Sutherland, the Independent Director recently netted about CA$1.3m selling shares at an average price of CA$198. That's a big disposal, and it decreased their holding size by 13%, which is notable but not too bad.

Colliers International Group Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

The Co-Chief Investment Officer, Zachary Michaud, made the biggest insider sale in the last 12 months. That single transaction was for CA$6.4m worth of shares at a price of CA$163 each. So it's clear an insider wanted to take some cash off the table, even below the current price of CA$201. When an insider sells below the current price, it suggests that they considered that lower price to be fair. That makes us wonder what they think of the (higher) recent valuation. However, while insider selling is sometimes discouraging, it's only a weak signal. This single sale was 56% of Zachary Michaud's stake.

Over the last year we saw more insider selling of Colliers International Group shares, than buying. Does Colliers International Group Boast High Insider Ownership?

Looking at the total insider shareholdings in a company can help to inform your view of whether they are well aligned with common shareholders. I reckon it's a good sign if insiders own a significant number of shares in the company. Colliers International Group insiders own about CA$1.4b worth of shares (which is 14% of the company). Most shareholders would be happy to see this sort of insider ownership, since it suggests that management incentives are well aligned with other shareholders.
