Earnings Update: Here's Why Analysts Just Lifted Their Colliers International Group Inc. (TSE:CIGI) Price Target To CA$194
As you might know, Colliers International Group Inc. (TSE:CIGI) recently reported its second-quarter numbers. It was a pretty mixed result, with revenues beating expectations to hit US$1.1b. Statutory earnings fell 3.9% short of analyst forecasts, reaching US$0.73 per share. Earnings are an important time for investors, as they can track a company's performance, look at what the analysts are forecasting for next year, and see if there's been a change in sentiment towards the company. So we gathered the latest post-earnings forecasts to see what estimates suggest is in store for next year.
Check out our latest analysis for Colliers International Group
Taking into account the latest results, the current consensus from Colliers International Group's eight analysts is for revenues of US$4.75b in 2024. This would reflect a modest 7.1% increase on its revenue over the past 12 months. Per-share earnings are expected to bounce 24% to US$3.49. In the lead-up to this report, the analysts had been modelling revenues of US$4.66b and earnings per share (EPS) of US$3.76 in 2024. The analysts seem to have become a little more negative on the business after the latest results, given the small dip in their earnings per share numbers for next year.
Despite cutting their earnings forecasts, the analysts have lifted their price target 16% to CA$194, suggesting that these impacts are not expected to weigh on the stock's value in the long term. It could also be instructive to look at the range of analyst estimates, to evaluate how different the outlier opinions are from the mean. There are some variant perceptions on Colliers International Group, with the most bullish analyst valuing it at CA$222 and the most bearish at CA$151 per share. These price targets show that analysts do have some differing views on the business, but the estimates do not vary enough to suggest to us that some are betting on wild success or utter failure.
Another way we can view these estimates is in the context of the bigger picture, such as how the forecasts stack up against past performance, and whether forecasts are more or less bullish relative to other companies in the industry. The analysts are definitely expecting Colliers International Group's growth to accelerate, with the forecast 15% annualised growth to the end of 2024 ranking favourably alongside historical growth of 11% per annum over the past five years. Compare this with other companies in the same industry, which are forecast to grow their revenue 7.8% annually. Factoring in the forecast acceleration in revenue, it's pretty clear that Colliers International Group is expected to grow much faster than its industry.
The Bottom Line
The most important thing to take away is that the analysts downgraded their earnings per share estimates, showing that there has been a clear decline in sentiment following these results. Fortunately, they also reconfirmed their revenue numbers, suggesting that it's tracking in line with expectations. Additionally, our data suggests that revenue is expected to grow faster than the wider industry. There was also a nice increase in the price target, with the analysts clearly feeling that the intrinsic value of the business is improving.
Following on from that line of thought, we think that the long-term prospects of the business are much more relevant than next year's earnings. We have estimates - from multiple Colliers International Group analysts - going out to 2026, and you can see them free on our platform here.
