OverActive Media Corp. (CVE:OAM) Stocks Shoot Up 30% But Its P/S Still Looks Reasonable
OverActive Media Corp. (CVE:OAM) shareholders have had their patience rewarded with a 30% share price jump in the last month. Looking further back, the 23% rise over the last twelve months isn't too bad notwithstanding the strength over the last 30 days.
After such a large jump in price, when almost half of the companies in Canada's Entertainment industry have price-to-sales ratios (or "P/S") below 0.5x, you may consider OverActive Media as a stock probably not worth researching with its 1.4x P/S ratio. Nonetheless, we'd need to dig a little deeper to determine if there is a rational basis for the elevated P/S.

How Has OverActive Media Performed Recently?
OverActive Media certainly has been doing a great job lately as it's been growing its revenue at a really rapid pace. The P/S ratio is probably high because investors think this strong revenue growth will be enough to outperform the broader industry in the near future. However, if this isn't the case, investors might get caught out paying too much for the stock.
We don't have analyst forecasts, but you can see how recent trends are setting up the company for the future by checking out our free report on OverActive Media's earnings, revenue and cash flow.Do Revenue Forecasts Match The High P/S Ratio?
The only time you'd be truly comfortable seeing a P/S as high as OverActive Media's is when the company's growth is on track to outshine the industry.
If we review the last year of revenue growth, the company posted a terrific increase of 60%. The latest three year period has also seen an excellent 89% overall rise in revenue, aided by its short-term performance. Therefore, it's fair to say the revenue growth recently has been superb for the company.
Comparing that recent medium-term revenue trajectory with the industry's one-year growth forecast of 16% shows it's noticeably more attractive.
In light of this, it's understandable that OverActive Media's P/S sits above the majority of other companies. Presumably shareholders aren't keen to offload something they believe will continue to outmanoeuvre the wider industry.
The Final Word
OverActive Media's P/S is on the rise since its shares have risen strongly. While the price-to-sales ratio shouldn't be the defining factor in whether you buy a stock or not, it's quite a capable barometer of revenue expectations.
As we suspected, our examination of OverActive Media revealed its three-year revenue trends are contributing to its high P/S, given they look better than current industry expectations. At this stage investors feel the potential continued revenue growth in the future is great enough to warrant an inflated P/S. Unless the recent medium-term conditions change, they will continue to provide strong support to the share price.
