Even With A 31% Surge, Cautious Investors Are Not Rewarding Enjoei S.A.'s (BVMF:ENJU3) Performance Completely
Enjoei S.A. (BVMF:ENJU3) shares have had a really impressive month, gaining 31% after a shaky period beforehand. Unfortunately, the gains of the last month did little to right the losses of the last year with the stock still down 14% over that time.
Even after such a large jump in price, Enjoei may still be sending buy signals at present with its price-to-sales (or "P/S") ratio of 1.1x, considering almost half of all companies in the Interactive Media and Services industry in Brazil have P/S ratios greater than 1.6x and even P/S higher than 5x aren't out of the ordinary. However, the P/S might be low for a reason and it requires further investigation to determine if it's justified.

How Has Enjoei Performed Recently?
With revenue growth that's superior to most other companies of late, Enjoei has been doing relatively well. One possibility is that the P/S ratio is low because investors think this strong revenue performance might be less impressive moving forward. If you like the company, you'd be hoping this isn't the case so that you could potentially pick up some stock while it's out of favour.

There's an inherent assumption that a company should underperform the industry for P/S ratios like Enjoei's to be considered reasonable.
Retrospectively, the last year delivered an exceptional 58% gain to the company's top line. The latest three year period has also seen an excellent 148% overall rise in revenue, aided by its short-term performance. Therefore, it's fair to say the revenue growth recently has been superb for the company.
Looking ahead now, revenue is anticipated to climb by 19% each year during the coming three years according to the three analysts following the company. With the industry only predicted to deliver 12% per annum, the company is positioned for a stronger revenue result.
With this in consideration, we find it intriguing that Enjoei's P/S sits behind most of its industry peers. Apparently some shareholders are doubtful of the forecasts and have been accepting significantly lower selling prices.
The Key Takeaway
Despite Enjoei's share price climbing recently, its P/S still lags most other companies. We'd say the price-to-sales ratio's power isn't primarily as a valuation instrument but rather to gauge current investor sentiment and future expectations.
A look at Enjoei's revenues reveals that, despite glowing future growth forecasts, its P/S is much lower than we'd expect. When we see strong growth forecasts like this, we can only assume potential risks are what might be placing significant pressure on the P/S ratio. It appears the market could be anticipating revenue instability, because these conditions should normally provide a boost to the share price.
