Unifiedpost Group SA's (EBR:UPG) Revenues Are Not Doing Enough For Some Investors
You may think that with a price-to-sales (or "P/S") ratio of 0.6x Unifiedpost Group SA (EBR:UPG) is a stock worth checking out, seeing as almost half of all the Software companies in Belgium have P/S ratios greater than 2.2x and even P/S higher than 5x aren't out of the ordinary. However, the P/S might be low for a reason and it requires further investigation to determine if it's justified.

What Does Unifiedpost Group's P/S Mean For Shareholders?
Unifiedpost Group could be doing better as it's been growing revenue less than most other companies lately. The P/S ratio is probably low because investors think this lacklustre revenue performance isn't going to get any better. If this is the case, then existing shareholders will probably struggle to get excited about the future direction of the share price.

The only time you'd be truly comfortable seeing a P/S as low as Unifiedpost Group's is when the company's growth is on track to lag the industry.
Taking a look back first, we see that there was hardly any revenue growth to speak of for the company over the past year. Although pleasingly revenue has lifted 178% in aggregate from three years ago, notwithstanding the last 12 months. So while the company has done a solid job in the past, it's somewhat concerning to see revenue growth decline as much as it has.
Turning to the outlook, the next three years should generate growth of 6.5% each year as estimated by the three analysts watching the company. Meanwhile, the rest of the industry is forecast to expand by 12% per annum, which is noticeably more attractive.
In light of this, it's understandable that Unifiedpost Group's P/S sits below the majority of other companies. It seems most investors are expecting to see limited future growth and are only willing to pay a reduced amount for the stock.
The Bottom Line On Unifiedpost Group's P/S
Generally, our preference is to limit the use of the price-to-sales ratio to establishing what the market thinks about the overall health of a company.
We've established that Unifiedpost Group maintains its low P/S on the weakness of its forecast growth being lower than the wider industry, as expected. At this stage investors feel the potential for an improvement in revenue isn't great enough to justify a higher P/S ratio. The company will need a change of fortune to justify the P/S rising higher in the future.
We don't want to rain on the parade too much, but we did also find 3 warning signs for Unifiedpost Group (1 is a bit unpleasant!) that you need to be mindful of.
