Further Upside For Senetas Corporation Limited (ASX:SEN) Shares Could Introduce Price Risks After 26% Bounce
Those holding Senetas Corporation Limited (ASX:SEN) shares would be relieved that the share price has rebounded 26% in the last thirty days, but it needs to keep going to repair the recent damage it has caused to investor portfolios. Still, the 30-day jump doesn't change the fact that longer term shareholders have seen their stock decimated by the 51% share price drop in the last twelve months.
Even after such a large jump in price, Senetas may still be sending bullish signals at the moment with its price-to-sales (or "P/S") ratio of 0.8x, since almost half of all companies in the Communications industry in Australia have P/S ratios greater than 1.7x and even P/S higher than 4x are not unusual. However, the P/S might be low for a reason and it requires further investigation to determine if it's justified.

How Has Senetas Performed Recently?
Senetas certainly has been doing a good job lately as it's been growing revenue more than most other companies. It might be that many expect the strong revenue performance to degrade substantially, which has repressed the share price, and thus the P/S ratio. If the company manages to stay the course, then investors should be rewarded with a share price that matches its revenue figures.

Senetas' P/S ratio would be typical for a company that's only expected to deliver limited growth, and importantly, perform worse than the industry.
If we review the last year of revenue growth, the company posted a terrific increase of 17%. As a result, it also grew revenue by 30% in total over the last three years. Therefore, it's fair to say the revenue growth recently has been respectable for the company.
Looking ahead now, revenue is anticipated to climb by 26% each year during the coming three years according to the lone analyst following the company. That's shaping up to be materially higher than the 5.3% per annum growth forecast for the broader industry.
With this information, we find it odd that Senetas is trading at a P/S lower than the industry. It looks like most investors are not convinced at all that the company can achieve future growth expectations.
What Does Senetas' P/S Mean For Investors?
Senetas' stock price has surged recently, but its but its P/S still remains modest. Using the price-to-sales ratio alone to determine if you should sell your stock isn't sensible, however it can be a practical guide to the company's future prospects.
Senetas' analyst forecasts revealed that its superior revenue outlook isn't contributing to its P/S anywhere near as much as we would have predicted. There could be some major risk factors that are placing downward pressure on the P/S ratio. At least price risks look to be very low, but investors seem to think future revenues could see a lot of volatility.
