Every investor in IVE Group Limited (ASX:IGL) should be aware of the most powerful shareholder groups. Institutional investors commonly compare their own returns to the returns of a commonly followed index. So they generally do consider buying larger companies that are included in the relevant benchmark index.

However, it is best to be wary of relying on the supposed validation that comes with institutional investors. They too, get it wrong sometimes. We note that hedge funds don't have a meaningful investment in IVE Group. Because actions speak louder than words, we consider it a good sign when insiders own a significant stake in a company. In IVE Group's case, its Top Key Executive, Geoff Selig, is the largest shareholder, holding 8.7% of shares outstanding. Meanwhile, the second and third largest shareholders, hold 6.4% and 5.0%, of the shares outstanding, respectively.

On further inspection, we found that more than half the company's shares are owned by the top 10 shareholders, suggesting that the interests of the larger shareholders are balanced out to an extent by the smaller ones.
