Insiders Could Have Profited By Holding onto Richmond Vanadium Technology Shares Despite 15% Drop

Despite the fact that Richmond Vanadium Technology Limited's (ASX:RVT) value has dropped 15% in the last week insiders who sold AU$1.3m worth of stock in the past 12 months have had less success. Insiders might have been better off holding onto their shares, given that the average selling price of AU$0.38 is still below the current share price.

Although we don't think shareholders should simply follow insider transactions, we do think it is perfectly logical to keep tabs on what insiders are doing.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At Richmond Vanadium Technology

The insider, Jinru Liu, made the biggest insider sale in the last 12 months. That single transaction was for AU$1.3m worth of shares at a price of AU$0.38 each. We generally don't like to see insider selling, but the lower the sale price, the more it concerns us. It's of some comfort that this sale was conducted at a price well above the current share price, which is AU$0.27. So it is hard to draw any strong conclusion from it. Jinru Liu was the only individual insider to sell over the last year.

Insider Ownership

I like to look at how many shares insiders own in a company, to help inform my view of how aligned they are with insiders. A high insider ownership often makes company leadership more mindful of shareholder interests. Our data indicates that Richmond Vanadium Technology insiders own about AU$6.7m worth of shares (which is 11% of the company). We do note, however, it is possible insiders have an indirect interest through a private company or other corporate structure. Overall, this level of ownership isn't that impressive, but it's certainly better than nothing!
