Ai-Media Technologies Limited (ASX:AIM) Analysts Just Cut Their EPS Forecasts Substantially
One thing we could say about the analysts on Ai-Media Technologies Limited (ASX:AIM) - they aren't optimistic, having just made a major negative revision to their near-term (statutory) forecasts for the organization. Both revenue and earnings per share (EPS) forecasts went under the knife, suggesting analysts have soured majorly on the business.
Following the latest downgrade, Ai-Media Technologies' three analysts currently expect revenues in 2023 to be AU$60m, approximately in line with the last 12 months. The loss per share is anticipated to greatly reduce in the near future, narrowing 74% to AU$0.0045. Yet prior to the latest estimates, the analysts had been forecasting revenues of AU$69m and losses of AU$0.004 per share in 2023. So there's been quite a change-up of views after the recent consensus updates, with the analysts making a serious cut to their revenue forecasts while also expecting losses per share to increase.
See our latest analysis for Ai-Media Technologies
The consensus price target fell 5.7% to AU$0.68, with the analysts clearly concerned about the company following the weaker revenue and earnings outlook. There's another way to think about price targets though, and that's to look at the range of price targets put forward by analysts, because a wide range of estimates could suggest a diverse view on possible outcomes for the business. There are some variant perceptions on Ai-Media Technologies, with the most bullish analyst valuing it at AU$0.79 and the most bearish at AU$0.55 per share. There are definitely some different views on the stock, but the range of estimates is not wide enough as to imply that the situation is unforecastable, in our view.
One way to get more context on these forecasts is to look at how they compare to both past performance, and how other companies in the same industry are performing. We would highlight that sales are expected to reverse, with a forecast 1.2% annualised revenue decline to the end of 2023. That is a notable change from historical growth of 32% over the last five years. Compare this with our data, which suggests that other companies in the same industry are, in aggregate, expected to see their revenue grow 6.5% per year. So although its revenues are forecast to shrink, this cloud does not come with a silver lining - Ai-Media Technologies is expected to lag the wider industry.
The Bottom Line
The most important thing to take away is that analysts increased their loss per share estimates for this year. Regrettably, they also downgraded their revenue estimates, and the latest forecasts imply the business will grow sales slower than the wider market. Given the scope of the downgrades, it would not be a surprise to see the market become more wary of the business.
With that said, the long-term trajectory of the company's earnings is a lot more important than next year. We have estimates - from multiple Ai-Media Technologies analysts - going out to 2025, and you can see them free on our platform here.
