Theriva Biologics, Inc., a clinical-stage company, develops therapeutics to treat cancer and related diseases in areas of high unmet need in the United States. Its lead product candidate, VCN-01 (zabilugene almadenorepvec), a clinical stage oncolytic human adenovirus that is in Phase 1 clinical trials and Phase 2 VIRAGE trial for patients with pancreatic cancer, head and neck squamous cell carcinoma, ovarian cancer, colorectal cancer, and retinoblastoma. The company also develops VCN-11 for treating solid tumors; SYN-004 (ribaxamase), an oral capsule prophylactic therapy that is in Phase 1b/2a clinical trials for the prevention of acute graft-versus-host-disease (aGVHD) in allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplant (HCT); and SYN-020, a recombinant oral formulation of the enzyme intestinal alkaline phosphatase (IAP) for multiple gastrointestinal and metabolic indications. In addition, it develops clinical stage products, such as SYN-006 to prevent aGVH, clostridioides difficile infection, and microbiome damage in patients treated with carbapenem antibiotics; and SYN-007 for preventing antibiotic associated diarrhea with oral ß-lactam antibiotics. The company has a license agreement with Rasayana Therapeutics, Inc. to research, develop, manufacture, and commercialize any product that includes SYN-020, as well as a clinical trial agreement with Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis to conduct a Phase 1b/2a clinical trial of SYN-004.
