Medtronic: Coming Back, But Not Yet Ready For Greatness

Summary Medtronic trades at a steep valuation discount (14.6x forward earnings) versus focused peers, despite leading positions in age-driven medtech markets. MDT's asset quality is high—leadership in cardiac rhythm management, neuromodulation, and TAVR—but strategic diffusion and slow growth hinder valuation. Elliott Investment Management's $2.5B stake and board changes could catalyze strategic focus, especially if MDT pivots to intelligent implantable systems. I rate MDT a hold; upside depends on credible divestitures and a focused strategy leveraging its data-rich, AI-capable implantable device platforms. Read the full article on Seeking Alpha

MDT: Acquisitions And Pipeline Progress Will Support Future Multiple Re Rating

The Medtronic analyst price target has been revised lower from $105.76 to $98.00 as analysts factor in softer long term utilization assumptions, higher inflation headwinds for margins, and lower future P/E multiples, despite generally solid recent results and product momentum. Analyst Commentary Analysts covering Medtronic are broadly aligned on near term headwinds around utilization, inflation and margins, but their views split on how these issues affect the stock’s long term growth and valuation.
