Billerud Appoints Jaakko Nikkilä as President, Billerud Europe and Member of the Group Management Team Billerud announced the appointment of Jaakko Nikkilä as President, Billerud Europe and member of the Group Management Team. Jaakko Nikkilä holds the position of Executive Vice President at UPM, heading the business area Specialty Paper with global sales of around EUR 1.5 billion, until year-end. Jaakko Nikkilä has extensive experience in both international sales and production of fiber-based packaging materials. He has been employed by the UPM Group since 1995 and served as a member of the UPM Group Executive Team since 2019. Jaakko Nikkilä, born 1967, is a Finnish citizen. He will assume the position as President of Billerud Europe on 1 May 2025 and will be based in Stockholm. As previously announced, Matthew Hirst will leave Billerud on 31 January 2025. Billerudkorsnäs Joins Forces with Syntegon Technology to Launch Recyclable Flow Wrap BillerudKorsnäs joins forces with Syntegon Technology to launch Recyclable Flow Wrap, a paper based packaging solution that enables a shift from conventional plastic to renewable and recyclable materials. Flow wrap is a type of flexible packaging used for many products in the fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) sector and plastic film flow wrap is standard for FMCG. BillerudKorsnäs Recyclable Flow Wrap is an innovative paper packaging solution, based on primary fibres from well-managed forests and with high barrier performance that can be recycled as paper. The product enables the shift from conventional plastic to paper and is suitable for medium to high barrier requirements such as those posed by chocolate bars and other confectionery as well as bakery product. A patent application for BillerudKorsnäs Recyclable Flow Wrap is pending. With the Syntegon upgrade kit paper-ON-form it can be installed on existing horizontal flow wrapping machines and new flow wrappers from Syntegon Packaging Systems AG. The solution was engineered in Syntegon´s own development center in Beringen, Switzerland, and consists of a flow-wrap forming unit and sealing tools or paper cold-sealing applications. The kit is already being used on existing lines from international manufacturers for packaging chocolate bars in paper. Billerudkorsnäs AB (Publ) Announces to Simplifies its Organizational Structure BillerudKorsnäs AB (publ) announced that as a step in the ongoing process to improve efficiency and enhance the company's ability to adapt to major changes in the outside world the company intends to implement a simplified organizational structure as of August 1, 2020. The new organization will be built along the business flow around three functional areas: Wood Supply, Operations and Commercial. In parallel, the resources for sustainability and innovation will be grouped in a common new function, Sustainability & Strategic Development. The change means that the current divisions are being replaced by a simplified organization where management comes closer to the business. The new structure follows the business flow and is built around three functional areas: Wood Supply, Operations and Commercial. To further integrate sustainability and innovation into the business, these resources will be grouped into a common function: Sustainability & Strategic Development. The Solutions business will remain an independent unit reporting as before to the CEO, but it will not be represented in the Executive Management Team. As of August 1, the Executive Management Team will consist of the following members; Lennart Holm, acting CEO, Ivar Vatne, CFO, Helene Biström, EVP Commercial, Tor Lundqvist, EVP Operations, Uno Brinnen, acting EVP Wood Supply, Ulf Eliasson, EVP Sustainability & Strategic Development and Paulina Ekvall, EVP HR.
