Copart's Return To Growth Starts Now: Adair's $1.9B Bet On ACV Auctions
Summary Copart (CPRT) is rated a strong buy, driven by the ACV Auctions acquisition, CEO Jay Adair's return, and a renewed growth strategy. CPRT's business model boasts a wide moat via land ownership, network effects, and dominant US/international salvage auction operations, despite recent market share and revenue growth challenges. Key forward catalysts include normalization in insurance coverage, rising total loss frequency, international expansion, and accretive M&A, with ACV expected to be EPS accretive by fiscal 2028. Valuation multiples are at multi-year lows (FCF yield 4.73%, forward PE 17.8), with Copart's robust balance sheet, strong ROIC, and buybacks supporting upside potential. This is a short add-on to my analysis few days ago: CPRT announcing their largest-ever, most expensive acquisition (ACV) on the same day as their weakest quarter in 5 years, a disclosed major customer loss, and unexplained cost inflation is at minimum a bad look, and at worst the kind of sequencing that sometimes reflects a board reaching for a growth narrative to offset bad news rather than a dispassionate capital-allocation decision made on its own merits. I genuinely don't know which it is — but I don't think it's unreasonable to notice the pattern and weight it as a mild negative rather than ignore it.Copart (CPRT): Q4/FY26 results + the ACV Auctions acquisition
