The decisions have been made ahead of the presentation of the new growth strategy at the Capital Markets Day on October 3, 2023. Thierry F. J. Vanlancker will be proposed as new Chair of the Board of Directors at the next Annual General Meeting in 2024, as Paul Hälg has decided to step down from his position after twelve successful years to make way for a new era. Thierry F.J. Vanlancker has been a member of the Board since 2019. He has held various management positions in the chemical sector for more than 30 years and possesses in-depth knowledge of strategy, M&A, product development, sales & marketing with specific know-how in chemicals and distribution. Paul Hälg has been a member of the Board of Directors since 2009 and the Chair of the Board since 2012. During this time, Sika has seen significant profitable growth and numerous successful acquisitions and integrations, with Parex and MBCC as outstanding examples. To enhance the capabilities and know-how of the Group Management in light of the new Growth Strategy 2028, the following changes to the management team will be effective as of October 1, 2023. Philippe Jost, currently Head Construction, is appointed Regional Manager Asia/Pacific. He joined Sika 26 years ago, has been a member of Group Management since 2019, and has held various management positions in the USA and in Switzerland. Ivo Schädler, currently Regional Manager EMEA, is appointed Head Construction. He joined Sika 26 years ago, has been a member of Group Management since 2017, and has held managerial positions in both Switzerland and the UK. Raffaella Marzi, currently Head Human Resources & Compliance, will additionally act as Head Legal. She takes over from Stefan Mösli, who has decided to step down after successfully heading the department since 1996. INEOS Enterprises Group Limited signed an agreement to acquire the admixtures business of MBCC Group from Sika AG (SWX:SIKA) on January 16, 2023. Sika Reportedly Plans to Divest Part of Its Concrete Additions Business in North America Sika AG (SWX:SIKA) is planning to divest part of its concrete additions business in North America in order to get regulatory clearance for the CHF 5.5 billion ($5.68 billion/€5.33 billion) acquisition of German construction chemicals specialist MBCC Group. Sika has decided to put MBCC's operations in the US and Canada to avoid a regular investigation by the US competition authority which could take up to three years, a spokesman for the Swiss company has told newspaper Finanz und Wirtschaft. The spokesman remained silent on potential bidders and the expected price of a deal. The divestment will not affect MBCC's remaining operations. For fiscal 2022, Sika expects sales to rise by well over 10% in local currencies – surpassing CHF 10 billion for the first time – and is anticipating an over-proportional increase in EBIT.Based on these expectations, Sika is confirming its 2023 strategic targets. The company remains aligned for long-term success and profitable growth. With its focus on the six strategic pillars – market penetration, innovation, operational efficiency, acquisitions, strong corporate values, and sustainability – Sika is seeking to grow by 6%–8% a year in local currencies up to 2023. Sika Develops Low Co2 Emission Admixture Product Range Sika reinforced its position as an enabler of sustainable construction. In cooperation with leading key players, Sika is working on the development of concrete admixtures implementing the LC3 technology that lowers CO2 emissions, developed by the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne. This new technology aims to facilitate the production of performant and sustainable cement with less clinker. Concrete is the most commonly used construction material in the world. The key ingredient of concrete is cement, whose production accounts for 6–8% of global CO2 emissions. As a technology leader in its industry, Sika focusses its R&D activities on the development of more sustainable, user friendly and at the same time better-performing product solutions. With its concrete admixtures, Sika enables to incorporate calcined clay in concrete, and to reduce the carbon footprint. LC3 – A PARADIGM SHIFT IN THE CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY - With the LC3 project, the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne, together with key players in the construction materials industry, targets to reduce the CO2 footprint of cement by switching to a novel supplementary cementitious material, that has the ability to replace up to 50% of clinker in cement. The new technology will play a significant and growing role in the concrete industry and represents a great opportunity for Sika to enable the construction sector to adopt this technology rapidly and effectively. Sika will provide solutions for concrete production and mortar products. SIKA SOLUTIONS PROMOTE LC3 TECHNOLOGY - Sika is prepared for a full scale product testing with interested customers. Sika Launches Its New Purform® Polyurethane Technology Sika has developed a new polyurethane technology, which it is launching onto the market under the PURFORM® brand. The new polymers will first be integrated into Sika's top seller Sikaflex®, as well as into liquid applied membranes. This innovation brings important benefits for customers: the products have an improved performance profile, are even more enduring, and have a strong sustainability profile. Investments in the associated production facilities were recently made at the Düdingen site. Polyurethanes have many different applications in the construction sector and automotive industry. For example, polyurethane-based joints are used in the weather-resistant sealing of facade elements on buildings, or to affix building components in infrastructure expansion or interior finishings with adhesives. These high-performance solutions are also used in the bonding of body components and battery systems for electric vehicles. Its new PURFORM® technology, from 2021 on Sika will be supplying customers with products that not only satisfy the high standards in terms of performance, but that are also in line with the upcoming stricter REACH regulations for enhanced health and safety safeguards for users. Sika products that use PURFORM® can offer customers major advantages. These include the process efficiency brought by less surface preparation with a simultaneous improvement in adhesive properties. The new technology also makes reliable, stress cracking-free bonding of plastics possible, and delivers the best compatibility with sensitive surfaces such as natural stone. Sika Expands Production in France and Positioning Itself for Infrastructure Investments Sika has started production of shotcrete admixtures at its main plant at Gournay-en-Bray, north west of Paris. The set accelerator marketed under the Sigunit® brand is used primarily in tunnel construction. The market potential in France and beyond is considerable – in western Europe alone, tenders have been issued for tunnel construction projects with a combined length of 900 kilometers, with these projects set to come on stream over the next few years. A crucial factor in shotcrete as it is applied in mining and tunneling is high early strength development. Admixtures in the form of a set accelerator ensure that the shotcrete bonds to rock and concrete, thus facilitating overhead spraying. Europe alone is currently planning infrastructure investment programs worth some CHF 750 billion, with tunnel construction included in these programs. Raffaella Marzi joined Sika in October 2014 as Group Compliance Officer and Legal Counsel.
