Albertsons' Buybacks Aren't Enough To Make It A Buy

Summary Albertsons plans $2 billion in buybacks over three years, aiming to boost EPS if margins hold steady. ACI is enhancing its AI shopping assistant and expanding prepared foods, targeting margin stabilization and market share retention in 2026. Despite a forward P/E of 8 and a 3.6% yield, the company faces margin pressure from inflation and price competition with discounters. I view ACI as a hold; buybacks alone are unlikely to drive significant stock price appreciation without stronger revenue growth. Read the full article on Seeking Alpha

Albertsons Companies Remains A Stellar Prospect

Summary Albertsons Companies, Inc. has shown resilience amidst market turmoil, with shares up 9.9% since January, outperforming the S&P 500's 14.7% decline. Despite mixed financials, Albertsons remains attractively priced with robust cash flows, trading cheaper than most peers on various financial metrics. Management's strategic moves, including significant capital investments, share buybacks, and a potential multi-billion dollar payout from Kroger, bolster long-term growth prospects. I maintain a "Strong Buy" rating on ACI stock, confident in Albertsons' continued upside potential despite recent financial performance and projected challenges. Albertsons: Profitability Concerns Deteriorate Upside (Rating Downgrade)

Summary Albertsons Companies, Inc.'s sales outlook remains stable, with fair Q4 comparable growth and a similar FY2025 guidance. The company's margin outlook is concerning as the gross margin declined 45 basis points in Q4, and profitability is guided to decline further in FY2025. Albertsons' productivity initiatives seem likely to be pushed into lower pricing, and digital sales growth seems to be cannibalizing higher-margin physical sales. As Albertsons' margin prospects are increasingly cloudy, ACI stock doesn't have a significant upside in its valuation in a new base scenario. Read the full article on Seeking Alpha

Albertsons: A Compelling Buy Amid Legal Battles And Market Shifts

Summary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s health policies are expected to shift consumer preferences towards fresher, healthier foods, benefiting grocery stocks like Albertsons. Albertsons' diverse business model, attractive valuation, and focus on nutritious offerings align well with the anticipated health-focused consumer behavior shift. Despite the blocked Kroger merger, Albertsons' operational strengths and improved financial metrics, including increased revenue and free cash flow, make it a compelling investment. Albertsons' improved balance sheet and recent dividend increase highlight its potential for future growth and shareholder returns. Read the full article on Seeking Alpha

Albertsons Is Still Trading At A Steep Discount, Even After Strong Upside

Summary Albertsons Companies remains a strong buy despite the blocked Kroger merger, with shares rising 13.7% since the merger collapse. The company shows growth in revenue and profits, driven by its pharmacy business and identical sales increases, despite some financial underperformance. Shares are attractively priced both on an absolute basis and relative to peers, with potential upside from litigation against Kroger Co. Albertsons' litigation against Kroger could yield significant financial benefits, adding to its already strong investment case. Read the full article on Seeking Alpha

There May Be Life In The Busted Albertsons -- Kroger Deal

Summary We had predicted most of the arguments in the FTC's suit to enjoin the merger in September 2023. The judge's opinion reiterates many of the points we made. The biggest “winner” of the failed deal isn't The Kroger Co. or Albertsons Companies, Inc.  It's Walmart because the busted merger eliminates Walmart's most viable competitor. The judgment sliced and diced the antitrust definition of the “market” for groceries to a narrow sector of the industry, so that the merger could not help but be 'anti-competitive.' Consumers lost, in our opinion.  Unions won.  But a new FTC Chair may leave the door open to possibly revive the merger. Investment bankers should be hovering to de-escalate the animosity between the two chains and work out a revived deal that survives FTC scrutiny. Read the full article on Seeking Alpha
