The Zepp Health Corporation (NYSE:ZEPP) share price has done very well over the last month, posting an excellent gain of 30%. The bad news is that even after the stocks recovery in the last 30 days, shareholders are still underwater by about 4.0% over the last year.

In spite of the firm bounce in price, Zepp Health may still be sending buy signals at present with its price-to-sales (or "P/S") ratio of 0.2x, considering almost half of all companies in the Electronic industry in the United States have P/S ratios greater than 1.7x and even P/S higher than 5x aren't out of the ordinary. Nonetheless, we'd need to dig a little deeper to determine if there is a rational basis for the reduced P/S.

How Zepp Health Has Been Performing

While the industry has experienced revenue growth lately, Zepp Health's revenue has gone into reverse gear, which is not great. It seems that many are expecting the poor revenue performance to persist, which has repressed the P/S ratio. So while you could say the stock is cheap, investors will be looking for improvement before they see it as good value.

How Is Zepp Health's Revenue Growth Trending?

There's an inherent assumption that a company should underperform the industry for P/S ratios like Zepp Health's to be considered reasonable.

In reviewing the last year of financials, we were disheartened to see the company's revenues fell to the tune of 37%. As a result, revenue from three years ago have also fallen 55% overall. Accordingly, shareholders would have felt downbeat about the medium-term rates of revenue growth.

Shifting to the future, estimates from the dual analysts covering the company suggest revenue growth is heading into negative territory, declining 13% over the next year. That's not great when the rest of the industry is expected to grow by 6.7%.

With this in consideration, we find it intriguing that Zepp Health's P/S is closely matching its industry peers. Nonetheless, there's no guarantee the P/S has reached a floor yet with revenue going in reverse. Even just maintaining these prices could be difficult to achieve as the weak outlook is weighing down the shares.

The Bottom Line On Zepp Health's P/S

The latest share price surge wasn't enough to lift Zepp Health's P/S close to the industry median. Typically, we'd caution against reading too much into price-to-sales ratios when settling on investment decisions, though it can reveal plenty about what other market participants think about the company.

As we suspected, our examination of Zepp Health's analyst forecasts revealed that its outlook for shrinking revenue is contributing to its low P/S. As other companies in the industry are forecasting revenue growth, Zepp Health's poor outlook justifies its low P/S ratio. It's hard to see the share price rising strongly in the near future under these circumstances.
