Possible Bearish Signals With Fabrinet Insiders Disposing Stock

Published
NYSE:FN

In the last year, many Fabrinet (NYSE:FN) insiders sold a substantial stake in the company which may have sparked shareholders' attention. Knowing whether insiders are buying is usually more helpful when evaluating insider transactions, as insider selling can have various explanations. However, shareholders should take a deeper look if several insiders are selling stock over a specific time period.

While we would never suggest that investors should base their decisions solely on what the directors of a company have been doing, we would consider it foolish to ignore insider transactions altogether.

Fabrinet Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

In the last twelve months, the biggest single sale by an insider was when the CEO & Director, Seamus Grady, sold US$7.2m worth of shares at a price of US$270 per share. That means that an insider was selling shares at around the current price of US$248. While we don't usually like to see insider selling, it's more concerning if the sales take place at a lower price. We note that this sale took place at around the current price, so it isn't a major concern, though it's hardly a good sign.

In the last year Fabrinet insiders didn't buy any company stock. The chart below shows insider transactions (by companies and individuals) over the last year. If you want to know exactly who sold, for how much, and when, simply click on the graph below!

Insider Ownership Of Fabrinet

Many investors like to check how much of a company is owned by insiders. We usually like to see fairly high levels of insider ownership. It appears that Fabrinet insiders own 0.4% of the company, worth about US$32m. This level of insider ownership is good but just short of being particularly stand-out. It certainly does suggest a reasonable degree of alignment.

So What Do The Fabrinet Insider Transactions Indicate?

The fact that there have been no Fabrinet insider transactions recently certainly doesn't bother us. We don't take much encouragement from the transactions by Fabrinet insiders. But it's good to see that insiders own shares in the company. If you are like me, you may want to think about whether this company will grow or shrink.
