There's No Escaping Senstar Technologies Ltd.'s (NASDAQ:SNT) Muted Revenues Despite A 34% Share Price Rise

The Senstar Technologies Ltd. (NASDAQ:SNT) share price has done very well over the last month, posting an excellent gain of 34%. But the gains over the last month weren't enough to make shareholders whole, as the share price is still down 9.2% in the last twelve months.

Even after such a large jump in price, Senstar Technologies may still be sending buy signals at present with its price-to-sales (or "P/S") ratio of 1.1x, considering almost half of all companies in the Electronic industry in the United States have P/S ratios greater than 1.6x and even P/S higher than 5x aren't out of the ordinary. Although, it's not wise to just take the P/S at face value as there may be an explanation why it's limited.

How Has Senstar Technologies Performed Recently?

We'd have to say that with no tangible growth over the last year, Senstar Technologies' revenue has been unimpressive. It might be that many expect the uninspiring revenue performance to worsen, which has repressed the P/S. If not, then existing shareholders may be feeling optimistic about the future direction of the share price.

Is There Any Revenue Growth Forecasted For Senstar Technologies?

Senstar Technologies' P/S ratio would be typical for a company that's only expected to deliver limited growth, and importantly, perform worse than the industry.

Taking a look back first, we see that there was hardly any revenue growth to speak of for the company over the past year. This isn't what shareholders were looking for as it means they've been left with a 57% decline in revenue over the last three years in total. So unfortunately, we have to acknowledge that the company has not done a great job of growing revenue over that time.

In contrast to the company, the rest of the industry is expected to grow by 7.7% over the next year, which really puts the company's recent medium-term revenue decline into perspective.

With this information, we are not surprised that Senstar Technologies is trading at a P/S lower than the industry. Nonetheless, there's no guarantee the P/S has reached a floor yet with revenue going in reverse. There's potential for the P/S to fall to even lower levels if the company doesn't improve its top-line growth.

The Key Takeaway

Senstar Technologies' stock price has surged recently, but its but its P/S still remains modest. Using the price-to-sales ratio alone to determine if you should sell your stock isn't sensible, however it can be a practical guide to the company's future prospects.

Our examination of Senstar Technologies confirms that the company's shrinking revenue over the past medium-term is a key factor in its low price-to-sales ratio, given the industry is projected to grow. At this stage investors feel the potential for an improvement in revenue isn't great enough to justify a higher P/S ratio. Given the current circumstances, it seems unlikely that the share price will experience any significant movement in either direction in the near future if recent medium-term revenue trends persist.
