Investors ignore increasing losses at Airgain (NASDAQ:AIRG) as stock jumps 10% this past week
The most you can lose on any stock (assuming you don't use leverage) is 100% of your money. But if you pick the right stock, you can make a lot more than 100%. For example, the Airgain, Inc. (NASDAQ:AIRG) share price had more than doubled in just one year - up 138%. Also pleasing for shareholders was the 42% gain in the last three months. In contrast, the longer term returns are negative, since the share price is 30% lower than it was three years ago.
After a strong gain in the past week, it's worth seeing if longer term returns have been driven by improving fundamentals.

Airgain isn't currently profitable, so most analysts would look to revenue growth to get an idea of how fast the underlying business is growing. Shareholders of unprofitable companies usually desire strong revenue growth. That's because it's hard to be confident a company will be sustainable if revenue growth is negligible, and it never makes a profit.
In the last year Airgain saw its revenue shrink by 25%. So we would not have expected the share price to rise 138%. It just goes to show the market doesn't always pay attention to the reported numbers. Of course, it could be that the market expected this revenue drop.

A Different Perspective
We're pleased to report that Airgain shareholders have received a total shareholder return of 138% over one year. There's no doubt those recent returns are much better than the TSR loss of 4% per year over five years. We generally put more weight on the long term performance over the short term, but the recent improvement could hint at a (positive) inflection point within the business. While it is well worth considering the different impacts that market conditions can have on the share price, there are other factors that are even more important. Like risks, for instance. Every company has them, and we've spotted 4 warning signs for Airgain (of which 1 is potentially serious!) you should know about.
