Despite a 24% gain in Applied Digital Corporation's (NASDAQ:APLD) stock price this week, shareholders shouldn't let up. Even though stock prices were relatively low, insiders elected to sell US$1.2m worth of stock in the last year, which could indicate some expected downturn.

Although we don't think shareholders should simply follow insider transactions, we would consider it foolish to ignore insider transactions altogether.

Applied Digital Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

In the last twelve months, the biggest single sale by an insider was when the insider, Virginia Moore, sold US$463k worth of shares at a price of US$5.03 per share. That means that an insider was selling shares at slightly below the current price (US$6.81). As a general rule we consider it to be discouraging when insiders are selling below the current price, because it suggests they were happy with a lower valuation. Please do note, however, that sellers may have a variety of reasons for selling, so we don't know for sure what they think of the stock price. This single sale was just 20% of Virginia Moore's stake.

Insider Ownership Of Applied Digital

I like to look at how many shares insiders own in a company, to help inform my view of how aligned they are with insiders. We usually like to see fairly high levels of insider ownership. This kind of significant ownership by insiders does generally increase the chance that the company is run in the interest of all shareholders.
