Have Insiders Been Buying Protalix BioTherapeutics, Inc. (NYSEMKT:PLX) Shares This Year?
It is not uncommon to see companies perform well in the years after insiders buy shares. Unfortunately, there are also plenty of examples of share prices declining precipitously after insiders have sold shares. So before you buy or sell Protalix BioTherapeutics, Inc. (NYSEMKT:PLX), you may well want to know whether insiders have been buying or selling.
Do Insider Transactions Matter?
It is perfectly legal for company insiders, including board members, to buy and sell stock in a company. However, such insiders must disclose their trading activities, and not trade on inside information.
We would never suggest that investors should base their decisions solely on what the directors of a company have been doing. But logic dictates you should pay some attention to whether insiders are buying or selling shares. For example, a Columbia University study found that 'insiders are more likely to engage in open market purchases of their own company’s stock when the firm is about to reveal new agreements with customers and suppliers'.

Protalix BioTherapeutics Insider Transactions Over The Last Year
In the last twelve months, the biggest single purchase by an insider was when Independent Director Aharon Schwartz bought US$155k worth of shares at a price of US$2.43 per share. We do like to see buying, but this purchase was made at well below the current price of US$3.80. Because it occurred at a lower valuation, it doesn't tell us much about whether insiders might find today's price attractive.

Insider Ownership
For a common shareholder, it is worth checking how many shares are held by company insiders. We usually like to see fairly high levels of insider ownership. It appears that Protalix BioTherapeutics insiders own 19% of the company, worth about US$23m. While this is a strong but not outstanding level of insider ownership, it's enough to indicate some alignment between management and smaller shareholders.
