Redbox stock jumps 42% in latest sudden move

Redbox Entertainment (NASDAQ:RDBX) was paused for volatility after the most recent of its sharp stock moves, and has resumed trading up 42.4%. RDBX stock suddenly jumped 17.8% to trigger the brief halt. The action puts it in positive ground for the week after the stock fell 14% Tuesday, following a 16.3% gain Monday. Teh action may be tied to short-covering, as some 37% of the stock's float was held short at last report. But Redbox is no stranger to sudden, meme-based double-digit trading in any case. Shares fell 13.3% in late July; they shot up 82% on July 25 and rose another 14.1% the day after.

Redbox has pitched its transition to becoming a digital company, but the effort seems late and early results look awful. Slashed 2021 guidance led to an 89% redemption rate in the de-SPAC merger and leaves balance sheet concerns going forward. Those redemptions, however, leave an extraordinarily thin float until lock-up expiration, which likely is several months away.
