This Insider Has Just Sold Shares In Element Solutions

We wouldn't blame Element Solutions Inc (NYSE:ESI) shareholders if they were a little worried about the fact that Ian Ashken, the Independent Director recently netted about US$7.9m selling shares at an average price of US$27.00. That sale reduced their total holding by 15% which is hardly insignificant, but far from the worst we've seen.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At Element Solutions

In the last twelve months, the biggest single sale by an insider was when the Founder & Executive Chairman, Martin Franklin, sold US$52m worth of shares at a price of US$26.10 per share. That means that even when the share price was below the current price of US$27.66, an insider wanted to cash in some shares. As a general rule we consider it to be discouraging when insiders are selling below the current price, because it suggests they were happy with a lower valuation. Please do note, however, that sellers may have a variety of reasons for selling, so we don't know for sure what they think of the stock price. It is worth noting that this sale was only 14% of Martin Franklin's holding.
