Insiders At GE HealthCare Technologies Sold US$2.1m In Stock, Alluding To Potential Weakness

Published
NasdaqGS:GEHC

The fact that multiple GE HealthCare Technologies Inc. (NASDAQ:GEHC) insiders offloaded a considerable amount of shares over the past year could have raised some eyebrows amongst investors. When evaluating insider transactions, knowing whether insiders are buying is usually more beneficial than knowing whether they are selling, as the latter can be open to many interpretations. However, shareholders should take a deeper look if several insiders are selling stock over a specific time period.

Although we don't think shareholders should simply follow insider transactions, we would consider it foolish to ignore insider transactions altogether.

GE HealthCare Technologies Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

In the last twelve months, the biggest single sale by an insider was when the insider, Kenneth Stacherski, sold US$1.6m worth of shares at a price of US$83.22 per share. That means that an insider was selling shares at around the current price of US$82.44. While we don't usually like to see insider selling, it's more concerning if the sales take place at a lower price. We note that this sale took place at around the current price, so it isn't a major concern, though it's hardly a good sign.

The last three months saw significant insider selling at GE HealthCare Technologies. In total, insider Philip Rackliffe sold US$79k worth of shares in that time, and we didn't record any purchases whatsoever. Overall this makes us a bit cautious, but it's not the be all and end all.

Insider Ownership Of GE HealthCare Technologies

I like to look at how many shares insiders own in a company, to help inform my view of how aligned they are with insiders. A high insider ownership often makes company leadership more mindful of shareholder interests. It appears that GE HealthCare Technologies insiders own 0.1% of the company, worth about US$51m. This level of insider ownership is good but just short of being particularly stand-out. It certainly does suggest a reasonable degree of alignment.

So What Does This Data Suggest About GE HealthCare Technologies Insiders?

An insider sold GE HealthCare Technologies shares recently, but they didn't buy any. Despite some insider buying, the longer term picture doesn't make us feel much more positive. But it is good to see that GE HealthCare Technologies is growing earnings. While insiders do own shares, they don't own a heap, and they have been selling. We'd practice some caution before buying! While it's good to be aware of what's going on with the insider's ownership and transactions, we make sure to also consider what risks are facing a stock before making any investment decision.
