NYSE:RNGR

We wouldn't blame Ranger Energy Services, Inc. (NYSE:RNGR) shareholders if they were a little worried about the fact that Richard Agee, a company insider, recently netted about US$5.9m selling shares at an average price of US$16.73. That diminished their holding by a very significant 72%, which arguably implies a strong desire to reallocate capital.

Notably, that recent sale by Richard Agee is the biggest insider sale of Ranger Energy Services shares that we've seen in the last year. So what is clear is that an insider saw fit to sell at around the current price of US$15.83. While we don't usually like to see insider selling, it's more concerning if the sales take place at a lower price. In this case, the big sale took place at around the current price, so it's not too bad (but it's still not a positive).

For a common shareholder, it is worth checking how many shares are held by company insiders. A high insider ownership often makes company leadership more mindful of shareholder interests. We've certainly seen higher levels of insider ownership elsewhere, but these holdings are enough to suggest alignment between insiders and the other shareholders.
