AGM Group Holdings Inc. (NASDAQ:AGMH) shares have continued their recent momentum with a 55% gain in the last month alone. Unfortunately, despite the strong performance over the last month, the full year gain of 4.9% isn't as attractive.

Although its price has surged higher, AGM Group Holdings may still look like a strong buying opportunity at present with its price-to-sales (or "P/S") ratio of 0.4x, considering almost half of all companies in the Capital Markets industry in the United States have P/S ratios greater than 3.2x and even P/S higher than 8x aren't out of the ordinary. However, the P/S might be quite low for a reason and it requires further investigation to determine if it's justified.

How AGM Group Holdings Has Been Performing

As an illustration, revenue has deteriorated at AGM Group Holdings over the last year, which is not ideal at all. Perhaps the market believes the recent revenue performance isn't good enough to keep up the industry, causing the P/S ratio to suffer. If you like the company, you'd be hoping this isn't the case so that you could potentially pick up some stock while it's out of favour.

We don't have analyst forecasts, but you can see how recent trends are setting up the company for the future by checking out our free report on AGM Group Holdings' earnings, revenue and cash flow.

How Is AGM Group Holdings' Revenue Growth Trending?

In order to justify its P/S ratio, AGM Group Holdings would need to produce anemic growth that's substantially trailing the industry.

Taking a look back first, the company's revenue growth last year wasn't something to get excited about as it posted a disappointing decline of 62%. The latest three year period has seen an incredible overall rise in revenue, a stark contrast to the last 12 months. So while the company has done a great job in the past, it's somewhat concerning to see revenue growth decline so harshly.

When compared to the industry's one-year growth forecast of 6.7%, the most recent medium-term revenue trajectory is noticeably more alluring

With this information, we find it odd that AGM Group Holdings is trading at a P/S lower than the industry. Apparently some shareholders believe the recent performance has exceeded its limits and have been accepting significantly lower selling prices.

What We Can Learn From AGM Group Holdings' P/S?

Even after such a strong price move, AGM Group Holdings' P/S still trails the rest of the industry. Using the price-to-sales ratio alone to determine if you should sell your stock isn't sensible, however it can be a practical guide to the company's future prospects.

We're very surprised to see AGM Group Holdings currently trading on a much lower than expected P/S since its recent three-year growth is higher than the wider industry forecast. Potential investors that are sceptical over continued revenue performance may be preventing the P/S ratio from matching previous strong performance. It appears many are indeed anticipating revenue instability, because the persistence of these recent medium-term conditions would normally provide a boost to the share price.
