Investors may wish to note that the Senior VP & Global Chief People Officer of ACCO Brands Corporation, Angela Jones, recently netted US$74k from selling stock, receiving an average price of US$4.96. It might not be a huge sale, but it did reduce their holding size 45%, hardly encouraging.

ACCO Brands Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

Notably, that recent sale by Angela Jones is the biggest insider sale of ACCO Brands shares that we've seen in the last year. That means that an insider was selling shares at slightly below the current price (US$5.10). When an insider sells below the current price, it suggests that they considered that lower price to be fair. That makes us wonder what they think of the (higher) recent valuation. However, while insider selling is sometimes discouraging, it's only a weak signal. It is worth noting that this sale was only 45% of Angela Jones's holding.

In the last year ACCO Brands insiders didn't buy any company stock. The chart below shows insider transactions (by companies and individuals) over the last year. If you click on the chart, you can see all the individual transactions, including the share price, individual, and the date!

Insider Ownership

I like to look at how many shares insiders own in a company, to help inform my view of how aligned they are with insiders. We usually like to see fairly high levels of insider ownership. It appears that ACCO Brands insiders own 4.6% of the company, worth about US$22m. While this is a strong but not outstanding level of insider ownership, it's enough to indicate some alignment between management and smaller shareholders.

So What Does This Data Suggest About ACCO Brands Insiders?

An insider sold stock recently, but they haven't been buying. And there weren't any purchases to give us comfort, over the last year. While insiders do own shares, they don't own a heap, and they have been selling. We're in no rush to buy! So while it's helpful to know what insiders are doing in terms of buying or selling, it's also helpful to know the risks that a particular company is facing.
