Returns On Capital Signal Tricky Times Ahead For Juic International (GTSM:6114)
If you're looking for a multi-bagger, there's a few things to keep an eye out for. Typically, we'll want to notice a trend of growing return on capital employed (ROCE) and alongside that, an expanding base of capital employed. This shows us that it's a compounding machine, able to continually reinvest its earnings back into the business and generate higher returns. However, after investigating Juic International (GTSM:6114), we don't think it's current trends fit the mold of a multi-bagger.
Return On Capital Employed (ROCE): What is it?
For those who don't know, ROCE is a measure of a company's yearly pre-tax profit (its return), relative to the capital employed in the business. The formula for this calculation on Juic International is:
Return on Capital Employed = Earnings Before Interest and Tax (EBIT) ÷ (Total Assets - Current Liabilities)
0.078 = NT$109m ÷ (NT$2.2b - NT$801m) (Based on the trailing twelve months to December 2020).
Thus, Juic International has an ROCE of 7.8%. Ultimately, that's a low return and it under-performs the Electronic industry average of 10%.

While the past is not representative of the future, it can be helpful to know how a company has performed historically, which is why we have this chart above. What Does the ROCE Trend For Juic International Tell Us?
When we looked at the ROCE trend at Juic International, we didn't gain much confidence. Over the last five years, returns on capital have decreased to 7.8% from 30% five years ago. And considering revenue has dropped while employing more capital, we'd be cautious. If this were to continue, you might be looking at a company that is trying to reinvest for growth but is actually losing market share since sales haven't increased.
In Conclusion...
We're a bit apprehensive about Juic International because despite more capital being deployed in the business, returns on that capital and sales have both fallen. It should come as no surprise then that the stock has fallen 34% over the last five years, so it looks like investors are recognizing these changes. Unless there is a shift to a more positive trajectory in these metrics, we would look elsewhere.
