Radium Life Tech. Co., Ltd. (TWSE:2547) shareholders have had their patience rewarded with a 30% share price jump in the last month. Looking back a bit further, it's encouraging to see the stock is up 49% in the last year.

Even after such a large jump in price, Radium Life Tech may still be sending bullish signals at the moment with its price-to-sales (or "P/S") ratio of 2x, since almost half of all companies in the Real Estate industry in Taiwan have P/S ratios greater than 2.5x and even P/S higher than 6x are not unusual. Nonetheless, we'd need to dig a little deeper to determine if there is a rational basis for the reduced P/S.

What Does Radium Life Tech's P/S Mean For Shareholders?

For instance, Radium Life Tech's receding revenue in recent times would have to be some food for thought. Perhaps the market believes the recent revenue performance isn't good enough to keep up the industry, causing the P/S ratio to suffer. However, if this doesn't eventuate then existing shareholders may be feeling optimistic about the future direction of the share price.

We don't have analyst forecasts, but you can see how recent trends are setting up the company for the future by checking out our free report on Radium Life Tech's earnings, revenue and cash flow.

What Are Revenue Growth Metrics Telling Us About The Low P/S?

Radium Life Tech's P/S ratio would be typical for a company that's only expected to deliver limited growth, and importantly, perform worse than the industry.

In reviewing the last year of financials, we were disheartened to see the company's revenues fell to the tune of 5.6%. At least revenue has managed not to go completely backwards from three years ago in aggregate, thanks to the earlier period of growth. Accordingly, shareholders probably wouldn't have been overly satisfied with the unstable medium-term growth rates.

Comparing that to the industry, which is predicted to deliver 53% growth in the next 12 months, the company's momentum is weaker, based on recent medium-term annualised revenue results.

In light of this, it's understandable that Radium Life Tech's P/S sits below the majority of other companies. Apparently many shareholders weren't comfortable holding on to something they believe will continue to trail the wider industry.

What We Can Learn From Radium Life Tech's P/S?

The latest share price surge wasn't enough to lift Radium Life Tech's P/S close to the industry median. It's argued the price-to-sales ratio is an inferior measure of value within certain industries, but it can be a powerful business sentiment indicator.

As we suspected, our examination of Radium Life Tech revealed its three-year revenue trends are contributing to its low P/S, given they look worse than current industry expectations. Right now shareholders are accepting the low P/S as they concede future revenue probably won't provide any pleasant surprises. If recent medium-term revenue trends continue, it's hard to see the share price experience a reversal of fortunes anytime soon.
