Lagercrantz Group (STO:LAGR B) Has Announced That It Will Be Increasing Its Dividend To SEK2.20
Lagercrantz Group AB (publ) (STO:LAGR B) has announced that it will be increasing its dividend from last year's comparable payment on the 2nd of September to SEK2.20. Despite this raise, the dividend yield of 0.9% is only a modest boost to shareholder returns.
Lagercrantz Group's Payment Could Potentially Have Solid Earnings Coverage
It would be nice for the yield to be higher, but we should also check if higher levels of dividend payment would be sustainable. Based on the last payment, Lagercrantz Group was quite comfortably earning enough to cover the dividend. This indicates that a lot of the earnings are being reinvested into the business, with the aim of fueling growth.
Over the next year, EPS is forecast to expand by 28.5%. If the dividend continues on this path, the payout ratio could be 38% by next year, which we think can be pretty sustainable going forward.

Dividend Volatility
The company has a long dividend track record, but it doesn't look great with cuts in the past. Since 2015, the dividend has gone from SEK0.444 total annually to SEK2.20. This implies that the company grew its distributions at a yearly rate of about 17% over that duration. It is great to see strong growth in the dividend payments, but cuts are concerning as it may indicate the payout policy is too ambitious.
The Dividend Looks Likely To Grow
Given that the dividend has been cut in the past, we need to check if earnings are growing and if that might lead to stronger dividends in the future. Lagercrantz Group has impressed us by growing EPS at 24% per year over the past five years. The company's earnings per share has grown rapidly in recent years, and it has a good balance between reinvesting and paying dividends to shareholders, so we think that Lagercrantz Group could prove to be a strong dividend payer.
We Really Like Lagercrantz Group's Dividend
Overall, we think this could be an attractive income stock, and it is only getting better by paying a higher dividend this year. Earnings are easily covering distributions, and the company is generating plenty of cash. All of these factors considered, we think this has solid potential as a dividend stock.
Companies possessing a stable dividend policy will likely enjoy greater investor interest than those suffering from a more inconsistent approach. Meanwhile, despite the importance of dividend payments, they are not the only factors our readers should know when assessing a company. Taking the debate a bit further, we've identified 1 warning sign for Lagercrantz Group that investors need to be conscious of moving forward. Looking for more high-yielding dividend ideas?
