I Ran A Stock Scan For Earnings Growth And Investor (STO:INVE A) Passed With Ease

Like a puppy chasing its tail, some new investors often chase 'the next big thing', even if that means buying 'story stocks' without revenue, let alone profit. Unfortunately, high risk investments often have little probability of ever paying off, and many investors pay a price to learn their lesson.

In the age of tech-stock blue-sky investing, my choice may seem old fashioned; I still prefer profitable companies like Investor (STO:INVE A). Now, I'm not saying that the stock is necessarily undervalued today; but I can't shake an appreciation for the profitability of the business itself. While a well funded company may sustain losses for years, unless its owners have an endless appetite for subsidizing the customer, it will need to generate a profit eventually, or else breathe its last breath.

Investor's Earnings Per Share Are Growing.

The market is a voting machine in the short term, but a weighing machine in the long term, so share price follows earnings per share (EPS) eventually. That makes EPS growth an attractive quality for any company. I, for one, am blown away by the fact that Investor has grown EPS by 55% per year, over the last three years. Growth that fast may well be fleeting, but like a lotus blooming from a murky pond, it sparks joy for the wary stock pickers.

I like to take a look at earnings before interest and (EBIT) tax margins, as well as revenue growth, to get another take on the quality of the company's growth. I note that Investor's revenue from operations was lower than its revenue in the last twelve months, so that could distort my analysis of its margins. The good news is that Investor is growing revenues, and EBIT margins improved by 8.9 percentage points to 81%, over the last year. Ticking those two boxes is a good sign of growth, in my book.

The trick, as an investor, is to find companies that are going to perform well in the future, not just in the past. To that end, right now and today, you can check our visualization of consensus analyst forecasts for future Investor EPS 100% free.

Are Investor Insiders Aligned With All Shareholders?

Since Investor has a market capitalization of kr683b, we wouldn't expect insiders to hold a large percentage of shares. But we are reassured by the fact they have invested in the company. Indeed, they have a glittering mountain of wealth invested in it, currently valued at kr1.1b. This suggests to me that leadership will be very mindful of shareholders' interests when making decisions!

Should You Add Investor To Your Watchlist?

Investor's earnings per share growth have been levitating higher, like a mountain goat scaling the Alps. That sort of growth is nothing short of eye-catching, and the large investment held by insiders certainly brightens my view of the company. At times fast EPS growth is a sign the business has reached an inflection point; and I do like those. So yes, on this short analysis I do think it's worth considering Investor for a spot on your watchlist. However, before you get too excited we've discovered 4 warning signs for Investor (2 shouldn't be ignored!) that you should be aware of.
