SinterCast (STO:SINT) Is Due To Pay A Dividend Of SEK3.50

The board of SinterCast AB (publ) (STO:SINT) has announced that it will pay a dividend on the 12th of November, with investors receiving SEK3.50 per share. This takes the dividend yield to 6.5%, which shareholders will be pleased with.

SinterCast's Projections Indicate Future Payments May Be Unsustainable

Impressive dividend yields are good, but this doesn't matter much if the payments can't be sustained. Prior to this announcement, the company was paying out 124% of what it was earning. Without profits and cash flows increasing, it would be difficult for the company to continue paying the dividend at this level.

The next 12 months is set to see EPS grow by 52.0%. However, if the dividend continues along recent trends, it could start putting pressure on the balance sheet with the payout ratio reaching 107% over the next year.

Dividend Volatility

The company has a long dividend track record, but it doesn't look great with cuts in the past. Since 2015, the annual payment back then was SEK1.50, compared to the most recent full-year payment of SEK7.00. This implies that the company grew its distributions at a yearly rate of about 17% over that duration. Dividends have grown rapidly over this time, but with cuts in the past we are not certain that this stock will be a reliable source of income in the future.

SinterCast May Find It Hard To Grow The Dividend

With a relatively unstable dividend, it's even more important to see if earnings per share is growing. Although it's important to note that SinterCast's earnings per share has basically not grown from where it was five years ago, which could erode the purchasing power of the dividend over time.

We're Not Big Fans Of SinterCast's Dividend

In conclusion, we have some concerns about this dividend, even though it being raised is good. The company isn't making enough to be paying as much as it is, and the other factors don't look particularly promising either. Overall, this doesn't get us very excited from an income standpoint.

Companies possessing a stable dividend policy will likely enjoy greater investor interest than those suffering from a more inconsistent approach. At the same time, there are other factors our readers should be conscious of before pouring capital into a stock. To that end, SinterCast has 2 warning signs (and 1 which is potentially serious) we think you should know about.
