Recent 4.3% pullback isn't enough to hurt long-term Nordic Semiconductor (OB:NOD) shareholders, they're still up 80% over 5 years
Nordic Semiconductor ASA (OB:NOD) shareholders might be concerned after seeing the share price drop 30% in the last quarter. But that doesn't change the fact that the returns over the last five years have been pleasing. It has returned a market beating 80% in that time. While the returns over the last 5 years have been good, we do feel sorry for those shareholders who haven't held shares that long, because the share price is down 65% in the last three years.
Although Nordic Semiconductor has shed kr864m from its market cap this week, let's take a look at its longer term fundamental trends and see if they've driven returns.

In his essay The Superinvestors of Graham-and-Doddsville Warren Buffett described how share prices do not always rationally reflect the value of a business. By comparing earnings per share (EPS) and share price changes over time, we can get a feel for how investor attitudes to a company have morphed over time.
Nordic Semiconductor's earnings per share are down 5.4% per year, despite strong share price performance over five years.
This means it's unlikely the market is judging the company based on earnings growth. Because earnings per share don't seem to match up with the share price, we'll take a look at other metrics instead.
In contrast revenue growth of 11% per year is probably viewed as evidence that Nordic Semiconductor is growing, a real positive. It's quite possible that management are prioritizing revenue growth over EPS growth at the moment.

It's good to see that there was some significant insider buying in the last three months. That's a positive. That said, we think earnings and revenue growth trends are even more important factors to consider. A Different Perspective
While the broader market gained around 7.6% in the last year, Nordic Semiconductor shareholders lost 20%. However, keep in mind that even the best stocks will sometimes underperform the market over a twelve month period. On the bright side, long term shareholders have made money, with a gain of 12% per year over half a decade. If the fundamental data continues to indicate long term sustainable growth, the current sell-off could be an opportunity worth considering. While it is well worth considering the different impacts that market conditions can have on the share price, there are other factors that are even more important.
