I Ran A Stock Scan For Earnings Growth And Yoosung T&S (KOSDAQ:024800) Passed With Ease
Like a puppy chasing its tail, some new investors often chase 'the next big thing', even if that means buying 'story stocks' without revenue, let alone profit. Unfortunately, high risk investments often have little probability of ever paying off, and many investors pay a price to learn their lesson.
In contrast to all that, I prefer to spend time on companies like Yoosung T&S (KOSDAQ:024800), which has not only revenues, but also profits. Now, I'm not saying that the stock is necessarily undervalued today; but I can't shake an appreciation for the profitability of the business itself. Conversely, a loss-making company is yet to prove itself with profit, and eventually the sweet milk of external capital may run sour.

Yoosung T&S's Earnings Per Share Are Growing.
If a company can keep growing earnings per share (EPS) long enough, its share price will eventually follow. That means EPS growth is considered a real positive by most successful long-term investors. Who among us would not applaud Yoosung T&S's stratospheric annual EPS growth of 44%, compound, over the last three years? That sort of growth never lasts long, but like a shooting star it is well worth watching when it happens.
I like to see top-line growth as an indication that growth is sustainable, and I look for a high earnings before interest and taxation (EBIT) margin to point to a competitive moat (though some companies with low margins also have moats). Yoosung T&S's EBIT margins are flat but, of some concern, its revenue is actually down. And that does make me a little more cautious of the stock.
In the chart below, you can see how the company has grown earnings, and revenue, over time. Click on the chart to see the exact numbers.
Since Yoosung T&S is no giant, with a market capitalization of ₩66b, so you should definitely check its cash and debt before getting too excited about its prospects.
Are Yoosung T&S Insiders Aligned With All Shareholders?
I like company leaders to have some skin in the game, so to speak, because it increases alignment of incentives between the people running the business, and its true owners. As a result, I'm encouraged by the fact that insiders own Yoosung T&S shares worth a considerable sum. To be specific, they have ₩17b worth of shares. That's a lot of money, and no small incentive to work hard. Those holdings account for over 26% of the company; visible skin in the game.
Should You Add Yoosung T&S To Your Watchlist?
Yoosung T&S's earnings have taken off like any random crypto-currency did, back in 2017. That EPS growth certainly has my attention, and the large insider ownership only serves to further stoke my interest. At times fast EPS growth is a sign the business has reached an inflection point; and I do like those. So yes, on this short analysis I do think it's worth considering Yoosung T&S for a spot on your watchlist. Still, you should learn about the 3 warning signs we've spotted with Yoosung T&S (including 1 which is a bit concerning) .
