Risks Still Elevated At These Prices As DAVOLINK Inc. (KOSDAQ:340360) Shares Dive 25%
To the annoyance of some shareholders, DAVOLINK Inc. (KOSDAQ:340360) shares are down a considerable 25% in the last month, which continues a horrid run for the company. Instead of being rewarded, shareholders who have already held through the last twelve months are now sitting on a 46% share price drop.
Although its price has dipped substantially, there still wouldn't be many who think DAVOLINK's price-to-sales (or "P/S") ratio of 0.8x is worth a mention when the median P/S in Korea's Communications industry is similar at about 1.1x. However, investors might be overlooking a clear opportunity or potential setback if there is no rational basis for the P/S.

How Has DAVOLINK Performed Recently?
For instance, DAVOLINK's receding revenue in recent times would have to be some food for thought. One possibility is that the P/S is moderate because investors think the company might still do enough to be in line with the broader industry in the near future. If not, then existing shareholders may be a little nervous about the viability of the share price.

There's an inherent assumption that a company should be matching the industry for P/S ratios like DAVOLINK's to be considered reasonable.
Taking a look back first, the company's revenue growth last year wasn't something to get excited about as it posted a disappointing decline of 18%. This means it has also seen a slide in revenue over the longer-term as revenue is down 10% in total over the last three years. So unfortunately, we have to acknowledge that the company has not done a great job of growing revenue over that time.
Comparing that to the industry, which is predicted to deliver 44% growth in the next 12 months, the company's downward momentum based on recent medium-term revenue results is a sobering picture.
With this in mind, we find it worrying that DAVOLINK's P/S exceeds that of its industry peers. It seems most investors are ignoring the recent poor growth rate and are hoping for a turnaround in the company's business prospects. Only the boldest would assume these prices are sustainable as a continuation of recent revenue trends is likely to weigh on the share price eventually.
What Does DAVOLINK's P/S Mean For Investors?
With its share price dropping off a cliff, the P/S for DAVOLINK looks to be in line with the rest of the Communications industry. Generally, our preference is to limit the use of the price-to-sales ratio to establishing what the market thinks about the overall health of a company.
We find it unexpected that DAVOLINK trades at a P/S ratio that is comparable to the rest of the industry, despite experiencing declining revenues during the medium-term, while the industry as a whole is expected to grow. Even though it matches the industry, we're uncomfortable with the current P/S ratio, as this dismal revenue performance is unlikely to support a more positive sentiment for long. Unless the the circumstances surrounding the recent medium-term improve, it wouldn't be wrong to expect a a difficult period ahead for the company's shareholders.
