There Are Reasons To Feel Uneasy About Park Systems' (KOSDAQ:140860) Returns On Capital
What trends should we look for it we want to identify stocks that can multiply in value over the long term? Typically, we'll want to notice a trend of growing return on capital employed (ROCE) and alongside that, an expanding base of capital employed. This shows us that it's a compounding machine, able to continually reinvest its earnings back into the business and generate higher returns. Having said that, while the ROCE is currently high for Park Systems (KOSDAQ:140860), we aren't jumping out of our chairs because returns are decreasing.
What Is Return On Capital Employed (ROCE)?
Just to clarify if you're unsure, ROCE is a metric for evaluating how much pre-tax income (in percentage terms) a company earns on the capital invested in its business. To calculate this metric for Park Systems, this is the formula:
Return on Capital Employed = Earnings Before Interest and Tax (EBIT) ÷ (Total Assets - Current Liabilities)
0.21 = ₩50b ÷ (₩303b - ₩60b) (Based on the trailing twelve months to June 2025).
So, Park Systems has an ROCE of 21%. In absolute terms that's a great return and it's even better than the Electronic industry average of 6.4%.

So How Is Park Systems' ROCE Trending?
When we looked at the ROCE trend at Park Systems, we didn't gain much confidence. To be more specific, while the ROCE is still high, it's fallen from 26% where it was five years ago. Although, given both revenue and the amount of assets employed in the business have increased, it could suggest the company is investing in growth, and the extra capital has led to a short-term reduction in ROCE. If these investments prove successful, this can bode very well for long term stock performance.
The Bottom Line
While returns have fallen for Park Systems in recent times, we're encouraged to see that sales are growing and that the business is reinvesting in its operations. And long term investors must be optimistic going forward because the stock has returned a huge 274% to shareholders in the last five years. So while the underlying trends could already be accounted for by investors, we still think this stock is worth looking into further.
