Returns At Synopex (KOSDAQ:025320) Are On The Way Up
What trends should we look for it we want to identify stocks that can multiply in value over the long term? In a perfect world, we'd like to see a company investing more capital into its business and ideally the returns earned from that capital are also increasing. This shows us that it's a compounding machine, able to continually reinvest its earnings back into the business and generate higher returns. Speaking of which, we noticed some great changes in Synopex's (KOSDAQ:025320) returns on capital, so let's have a look.
Understanding Return On Capital Employed (ROCE)
For those that aren't sure what ROCE is, it measures the amount of pre-tax profits a company can generate from the capital employed in its business. To calculate this metric for Synopex, this is the formula:
Return on Capital Employed = Earnings Before Interest and Tax (EBIT) ÷ (Total Assets - Current Liabilities)
0.16 = ₩25b ÷ (₩219b - ₩64b) (Based on the trailing twelve months to June 2024).
Therefore, Synopex has an ROCE of 16%. On its own, that's a standard return, however it's much better than the 6.9% generated by the Electronic industry.

What The Trend Of ROCE Can Tell Us
Synopex is displaying some positive trends. The numbers show that in the last five years, the returns generated on capital employed have grown considerably to 16%. Basically the business is earning more per dollar of capital invested and in addition to that, 64% more capital is being employed now too. So we're very much inspired by what we're seeing at Synopex thanks to its ability to profitably reinvest capital.
On a related note, the company's ratio of current liabilities to total assets has decreased to 29%, which basically reduces it's funding from the likes of short-term creditors or suppliers. So shareholders would be pleased that the growth in returns has mostly come from underlying business performance.
The Bottom Line
All in all, it's terrific to see that Synopex is reaping the rewards from prior investments and is growing its capital base. And with the stock having performed exceptionally well over the last five years, these patterns are being accounted for by investors. With that being said, we still think the promising fundamentals mean the company deserves some further due diligence.
