Did You Participate In Any Of Techwing's (KOSDAQ:089030) Fantastic 177% Return ?
When you buy shares in a company, it's worth keeping in mind the possibility that it could fail, and you could lose your money. But on the bright side, if you buy shares in a high quality company at the right price, you can gain well over 100%. Long term Techwing, Inc. (KOSDAQ:089030) shareholders would be well aware of this, since the stock is up 156% in five years. Also pleasing for shareholders was the 41% gain in the last three months. But this move may well have been assisted by the reasonably buoyant market (up 33% in 90 days).

In his essay The Superinvestors of Graham-and-Doddsville Warren Buffett described how share prices do not always rationally reflect the value of a business. One imperfect but simple way to consider how the market perception of a company has shifted is to compare the change in the earnings per share (EPS) with the share price movement.
During the last half decade, Techwing became profitable. That kind of transition can be an inflection point that justifies a strong share price gain, just as we have seen here.
The image below shows how EPS has tracked over time (if you click on the image you can see greater detail).
We know that Techwing has improved its bottom line over the last three years, but what does the future have in store? You can see how its balance sheet has strengthened (or weakened) over time in this free interactive graphic.
What About Dividends?
It is important to consider the total shareholder return, as well as the share price return, for any given stock. Whereas the share price return only reflects the change in the share price, the TSR includes the value of dividends (assuming they were reinvested) and the benefit of any discounted capital raising or spin-off. So for companies that pay a generous dividend, the TSR is often a lot higher than the share price return. As it happens, Techwing's TSR for the last 5 years was 177%, which exceeds the share price return mentioned earlier. This is largely a result of its dividend payments!
A Different Perspective
Techwing shareholders are up 33% for the year (even including dividends). But that was short of the market average. On the bright side, that's still a gain, and it's actually better than the average return of 23% over half a decade It is possible that returns will improve along with the business fundamentals. It's always interesting to track share price performance over the longer term. But to understand Techwing better, we need to consider many other factors. Like risks, for instance. Every company has them, and we've spotted 3 warning signs for Techwing (of which 1 is a bit concerning!) you should know about.
