The Market Doesn't Like What It Sees From MiCo Ltd.'s (KOSDAQ:059090) Revenues Yet As Shares Tumble 25%
MiCo Ltd. (KOSDAQ:059090) shareholders that were waiting for something to happen have been dealt a blow with a 25% share price drop in the last month. Instead of being rewarded, shareholders who have already held through the last twelve months are now sitting on a 10% share price drop.
After such a large drop in price, when close to half the companies operating in Korea's Semiconductor industry have price-to-sales ratios (or "P/S") above 1.2x, you may consider MiCo as an enticing stock to check out with its 0.5x P/S ratio. However, the P/S might be low for a reason and it requires further investigation to determine if it's justified.

How Has MiCo Performed Recently?
MiCo has been doing a good job lately as it's been growing revenue at a solid pace. It might be that many expect the respectable revenue performance to degrade substantially, which has repressed the P/S. Those who are bullish on MiCo will be hoping that this isn't the case, so that they can pick up the stock at a lower valuation.

There's an inherent assumption that a company should underperform the industry for P/S ratios like MiCo's to be considered reasonable.
If we review the last year of revenue growth, the company posted a worthy increase of 13%. Pleasingly, revenue has also lifted 44% in aggregate from three years ago, partly thanks to the last 12 months of growth. Accordingly, shareholders would have definitely welcomed those medium-term rates of revenue growth.
Comparing the recent medium-term revenue trends against the industry's one-year growth forecast of 62% shows it's noticeably less attractive.
In light of this, it's understandable that MiCo's P/S sits below the majority of other companies. Apparently many shareholders weren't comfortable holding on to something they believe will continue to trail the wider industry.
What Does MiCo's P/S Mean For Investors?
MiCo's P/S has taken a dip along with its share price. We'd say the price-to-sales ratio's power isn't primarily as a valuation instrument but rather to gauge current investor sentiment and future expectations.
Our examination of MiCo confirms that the company's revenue trends over the past three-year years are a key factor in its low price-to-sales ratio, as we suspected, given they fall short of current industry expectations. Right now shareholders are accepting the low P/S as they concede future revenue probably won't provide any pleasant surprises. Unless the recent medium-term conditions improve, they will continue to form a barrier for the share price around these levels.
