Enchem Co., Ltd.'s (KOSDAQ:348370) 33% Cheaper Price Remains In Tune With Revenues
Enchem Co., Ltd. (KOSDAQ:348370) shares have had a horrible month, losing 33% after a relatively good period beforehand. The good news is that in the last year, the stock has shone bright like a diamond, gaining 222%.
Although its price has dipped substantially, you could still be forgiven for thinking Enchem is a stock to steer clear of with a price-to-sales ratios (or "P/S") of 12.6x, considering almost half the companies in Korea's Chemicals industry have P/S ratios below 0.7x. However, the P/S might be quite high for a reason and it requires further investigation to determine if it's justified.

What Does Enchem's Recent Performance Look Like?
Recent times haven't been great for Enchem as its revenue has been falling quicker than most other companies. Perhaps the market is predicting a change in fortunes for the company and is expecting them to blow past the rest of the industry, elevating the P/S ratio. However, if this isn't the case, investors might get caught out paying too much for the stock.

The only time you'd be truly comfortable seeing a P/S as steep as Enchem's is when the company's growth is on track to outshine the industry decidedly.
Taking a look back first, the company's revenue growth last year wasn't something to get excited about as it posted a disappointing decline of 35%. Even so, admirably revenue has lifted 145% in aggregate from three years ago, notwithstanding the last 12 months. Although it's been a bumpy ride, it's still fair to say the revenue growth recently has been more than adequate for the company.
Turning to the outlook, the next year should generate growth of 192% as estimated by the only analyst watching the company. Meanwhile, the rest of the industry is forecast to only expand by 28%, which is noticeably less attractive.
With this in mind, it's not hard to understand why Enchem's P/S is high relative to its industry peers. It seems most investors are expecting this strong future growth and are willing to pay more for the stock.
The Bottom Line On Enchem's P/S
A significant share price dive has done very little to deflate Enchem's very lofty P/S. While the price-to-sales ratio shouldn't be the defining factor in whether you buy a stock or not, it's quite a capable barometer of revenue expectations.
We've established that Enchem maintains its high P/S on the strength of its forecasted revenue growth being higher than the the rest of the Chemicals industry, as expected. At this stage investors feel the potential for a deterioration in revenues is quite remote, justifying the elevated P/S ratio. Unless the analysts have really missed the mark, these strong revenue forecasts should keep the share price buoyant.
Having said that, be aware Enchem is showing 2 warning signs in our investment analysis, and 1 of those is significant.
