Despite currently being unprofitable, SGLtd (KOSDAQ:255220) has delivered a 137% return to shareholders over 1 year
It's been a soft week for SG Co.,Ltd (KOSDAQ:255220) shares, which are down 13%. But that doesn't change the fact that the returns over the last year have been very strong. Like an eagle, the share price soared 108% in that time. So it may be that the share price is simply cooling off after a strong rise. Only time will tell if there is still too much optimism currently reflected in the share price.
In light of the stock dropping 13% in the past week, we want to investigate the longer term story, and see if fundamentals have been the driver of the company's positive one-year return.

Because SGLtd made a loss in the last twelve months, we think the market is probably more focussed on revenue and revenue growth, at least for now. Generally speaking, companies without profits are expected to grow revenue every year, and at a good clip. Some companies are willing to postpone profitability to grow revenue faster, but in that case one would hope for good top-line growth to make up for the lack of earnings.
In the last year SGLtd saw its revenue grow by 16%. We respect that sort of growth, no doubt. While that revenue growth is pretty good the share price performance outshone it, with a lift of 108% as mentioned above. Given that the business has made good progress on the top line, it would be worth taking a look at its path to profitability. Of course, we are always cautious about succumbing to 'fear of missing out' when a stock has shot up strongly.

What About The Total Shareholder Return (TSR)?
Investors should note that there's a difference between SGLtd's total shareholder return (TSR) and its share price change, which we've covered above. The TSR attempts to capture the value of dividends (as if they were reinvested) as well as any spin-offs or discounted capital raisings offered to shareholders. SGLtd's TSR of 137% for the 1 year exceeded its share price return, because it has paid dividends.
A Different Perspective
It's nice to see that SGLtd shareholders have received a total shareholder return of 137% over the last year. That gain is better than the annual TSR over five years, which is 11%. Therefore it seems like sentiment around the company has been positive lately. Someone with an optimistic perspective could view the recent improvement in TSR as indicating that the business itself is getting better with time. It's always interesting to track share price performance over the longer term. But to understand SGLtd better, we need to consider many other factors. Consider for instance, the ever-present spectre of investment risk. We've identified 3 warning signs with SGLtd , and understanding them should be part of your investment process.
